Campaign for Thieves
i'll bet some of you remember this.. some of you are the reason that i'm even posting this here, to see if it'll generate any interest.
If I was to start a campaign for rogues, would anyone be interested in joining?
It'd be taking place in a city (a large one).
More or less, you would be a small band of mercenaries to kill people and steal from safes, follow people. THat sort of thing.
Weapons need not apply. At best, you might have a +1,+2 dagger or shortsword. That sort of thing.
The only stipulation is that the level of your rogue class must be 2x what your other class (if you want) is. [example: must be level 4 rogue to dualclass a level 2 wizard]
It would also be a lot of RPing. (still make checks, but more planning and doing. little actual attacking)
XP is awarded for unique ideas, quest completion.
Also, the only payment (aside from what you might steal) is in gold or gems from the person who hires your group.
Start at level 2 rogue.
Tell me if you are interested and what race you will be. I'll accept just about any humanoid sort of race... (but anything not in the PHB must be accepted by me)
Rolls for abilities are to be used by 4d6 - lowest d6 (5 rolls) and 14+d4 (1 roll).
You can make 2 sets of 6 rolls. Choose the better of the two.
Example: 12 13
17 13
14 12
15 16
15 18
13 16 you could choose which of the 2 sets you would rather want.
Also: they have to be done 1 set at a time... [example: 12,17,14,15,15,13. not 12(1), 13(2), 17(1), 13(2) etc.]
Post here if you have any questions or if you'd be interested in joining said campaign.

House Rules
This will be 3E btw.
In combat, if the victims AC is less than 20, it's a crit (no threat). If the victims AC is above or equal to 20, it's a threat. If crit for the weapon is 18 or something, it's a threat. Also, 10 above the AC is also a crit (threat or crit, depending on AC)
will post more as they come to me.. hopefully, not in game, otherwise this could create a problem..

thats up to the players to decide. if you want to make it friendly competition to see who completes the task first, fine.. or if you're going to maim each other to get the reward singlehandedly fine. its completley up to the players.. they can make their own alliances/enemies.
EDIT: i'd like the group to stay fairly near to each other no matter what happens.. enemies or friends.. a few blocks.. that sort of thing.

Why did he veto the psycho? you didn't get a stat bonus or something for it did you? or was it the lack of party interaction? either way probably could have been sorted out, and since he said he didn't mind us killing each other it sounds like you'd fit right in
"If knowledge is power, then to be unknown is to be unconquerable."
-Romulan Motto
Campaign for Thieves
the lack of party interaction.. it was basically impossible for him to be in a group, and unless he was going to be a PK, he just couldnh't play, aside from private sessions, which i don't want to always do.. andi don't want to have to deal with a PK.. unless both players agree to it.. and then its not a PK its a duel.

He wouldn't have PKed... He just would have had random outbursts at critical moments and the like. Truthfully, the group would have killed him long before he would have killed the group.

Campaign for Thieves
Arch_D, you're campaign sounds similar to the idea I had, maybe we could collaborate on a large setting?
Here it is:
Ok, looking to start a city campaign and work the plans out with a co-DM who can also DM for parts of the campaign.
The idea is most likely to be set in Waterdeep, though Lankhmar or other lare cities can be used if the material can be acquired.
The game style to be attempted here will be somewhat based on "Ffahfrd and the Grey Mouser", "Gord the Rogue" series by G. Gygax, or any other type of charming diletante' rogue adventures. Also included will be
treasure hunting, lost artifact, Indiana Jones style adventures mixed with sage and legend lore history.
The mainstay character influences should be Rogues, Bards, Buccaneer-Swashbucklers, city-mage/illusionist types.
Rogue/thief adventures- intrigue, night missions, item running/protection missions
Swashbuckling adventures-lost treasure hunting, high seas missions, bounty hunting,
The underdark may well be a site for exploration as well.
Later the game may progree into intrigue, war settings but mainly in Waterdeep and the North.
Game material notes:
Rules, 1st and 2nd ed are the best known here, but we can use 3rd ed. if everyone agrees. I have all of the conversion charts for all the editions.
The rules used should be everything except the the optional guides like the complete fighter etc. at first, this may change later as we all (or just the DM) can get used to them.
Multi classed players are more then good, they might as well be preferred as the game goes on. This is because the game will consist of a great amount of variety, from hack and slash, theater, historical backgrounds, and of course rogue actions in the shadows...
This means even though you may want a thief, the character may well do bette as a ranger/thief, barbarian/thief etc. to get some more combat skills included. That thief will adventure in equal amounts the night roofs of Waterdeep, the underdark, and the high seas, (and missions by adventuring guilds to far off wildernesses, this for shorter missions).
Co-DM needed: It will have to be run by two DM's or more as we can make this a group campaign, and then more players could play. Plus a large city has so much to describe, not to mention adventuring stints in other areas as well. It would be easier to share the work of setting this up properly.
Game Formats: The game shoud be played in a chat room, with additional forum posts for descriptions as is base. However I would like to have everyone try a couple of new formats. Actually we need to use one of these additional methods to send info as the game will require a lot of info.
1. We should all try to get speech-to-text programs so we can put more information into the game, especially if you can't type that quick.
2. Would really like to try to use voice, on conference phones at work first. People can call into my conference phone number, and we can talk to get more information across quicker then typing. Additionally, we can try some IP based voice programs later on.
3. We should try to all get webRPG/OpenRPG, or Klooge eventually. They have the tabletop tools to bring to online gaming.
Game times:
I can play during the week at lunchtime from 12-1 PM Mon-Wed., Mon and Tue 5-9, and Sunday 1-5, EST. We can work out days of course to get the best ones for everyone.
Please submit character ideas here, and DM's email for campaign discussion in addition to here, to: castlestudios@hotmail.com
thanks!

wooboy.. i thought this was dead, again.
i have no real idea what you just said, so i'd like to talk to you on msn or something about it.. you can add me.
and yeah, i'd be willing to dm (have to be 3rd or 3.5e- as i don't like either 1e or 2e at all)
i'd also be willing to play too.
oh, and i don't think that the voice-text program will happen, at least until i get to college. we;ll see what happens then. and the conference call will cost an arm and a leg, so i certainly won't be doing that.

Arch_D what is you're MSN?
We will have to talk about scenario design...
The voice to text programs help those who want to put in a ton of info, but do it quicker then typing..You don't need to use it, it's just an option. Also if you have a computer, you can have speech to text, text to speech.
As for conference calls, I have free access to call out , and conference other people. I can call other players, and conference them in if we all want to. Why, because voice is a huge part of a tabletop game. By talking to the other players, you get differnt voices, tones, emotions, as well as quicker information. Again, this is also an option, not a requirement, just asking for people to be open to try for a better online-tabletop!
Darklook, thanks for the info, didn't look around on PNPW for any programs. I would like to check into a few of them to see which ones have the greates features. Another one is D20Map which actually has the D20 system built in.
So how many of the previous, and new players are interested?

I've actually been working on fleshing out a character idea I had that sounds perfect for this type of game.
My characters is a rogue/lawyer. He takes cases from people who are guilty and need a little help putting a spin on events. He forges documents, plants evidence, steals evidence, steals documents, breaks and enters, offs or bribes witnesses, bribes or cons diplomats (judges/magistrates) or law enforcement agents (guards). He only kills when he needs to. He doesn't take jobs to kill people (that's an assassin's job), but relocating an unconcious witness to a room full of people who do want to see harm to that person is no problem.
Well, I hope that is enough of a background to let you know how I would be playing it. If you think this is a good idea, I'd love to play in your campaign. Just let me know time and place and I'll have him rolled up per spec.

Yeah, PNPW, well, *is* a program. At the moment it is not quite as feature-rich as webRPG/openRPG, but it does have the advantages of being free and easy to use, and is still under extensive development (a lot of new features being added soon).
Also, if you're interested in using voice, there are easier solutions than conference calls... I don't know much about the speech-to-text programs you're describing (if you could dig up some info and a URL, I'd be quite interested), but if you have a decent internet connection and the players and DMs have microphones, you could easily use teamspeak.
