New Race, the Levios, just made
I came up with this idea today, and thought that other people might want to see it.
[u]Levios[/u]
Personality: Levios, also known as Levizirdfolk to the settlers, are very shy and timid, only showing their faces to the world within the past 5 years, yet they have grown in numbers in human lands. While timid and shy, the Levios are fierce fighters when protecting their homes, territory, or loved ones. They are also very openminded, not caring about racial, physical or personality differences.
Physical Description: Levios ususally stand about 5 to 5.5 feet tall, and weigh about 30-50 pounds. Their bodies are very broken, comprising of a head, body, hands, and feet. They have no hair and usually are one distinct color. They live atleast 2 centuries and reach adulthood at about 50.
Relations: Since levios have only been in human lands about 10 years, most races are still a little skeptic about them, so no other race really trust's them. Levios seem to be very openminded, so they can make friends easily with a little reasoning.
Alignment: Levios love to be free so they are usually Chaotic Good. Many have succumb to evil because they like to try new things, and often change their ways in accordance.
Levios lands: Levios lands can be anything you can build a house on, from praries to the top of a volcano, using all the resources available at those locations.
Religion: The levios have no religion, they conform to that of the race nearest to their own, because they only wish to be accepted.
Language: Levios most often use Common but are developing their own language based around Draconic. Their script in a different type of rune from that of the dwarf, yet there are some similarities.
Names: Levios, only wishing to be accepted, try names of all the different races to conform.
Adventurers: Levios hold back when doing anything, except fighting, they like to try new things, but because they don't know the result. They can be the bravest warrior, or the most cowardly wizard.
[u]Levios Racial Traits[/u]
+2 dexterity, +1 strength, -3 charisma
Medium: As Medium creatures, humans have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size.
Levios base land speed is 30 feet.
+2 Racial bonus on attack rolls with any reach weapon.
-2 Racial bonus on attack rolls with any ranged weapon.
Automatic Language: Common. Bonus languages: Any (other than secret languages, such as druidic).

Sounds cool, but a tad unbalanced. It should suffer a few penalties to even out it's wealth of bonuses, that way it is on par with the other races.

I'd never play any other race -- only stat +s, no -s....and free bonuses for attacking with reach/range.

the -3 to wisdom doesnt make a whole lot of sense, perhaps to intelligence or charisma instead?
Also, this - does not rebalance the additions to attacks.

These 'tall introverted gnomes' are freakishy out of proportion. Anything without legs/arms weighing only 50 lbs at that kind of a height does not portray a "+1 to strength" or a "+2 to dexterity" very well.
EDIT: They're also the only outgoing race that has a negative to cha instead of a plus to it.
Races that normally live isolated usually do not have a common tongue with others. They do usually have their own language though: "Levian" should be a racial language, common should not (maybe for heroes it is). Unless of course, you mean an entire race just sprang from rocks, at which case, I would declare you a nut.

Same here, they should have their own set of names. Unless they sprang from the rocks again.
Mechanics-Wise:
Use even-numbered plusses for stats, odd numbers become incredibly hard to gauge in balancing out a race. (+2 Dex, +2 Str, -4 Cha) Of course, both the stats and the size are questionable in my eyes. A +2 bonus to reach weapons seems so random, seeing as you never bothered to explain it. The same goes for the ranged weapon... why?
Also, most demihuman races (Hehe, I used a 2E term) have some sort of darkvision or low-light vision. The only demihuman I know of without this is the lizardman... and even though "Levizirdfolk" sounds suspiciously like lizardmen, I doubt that this was your intent. Think aboot it.
(Also, some racial bonuses to skills would be nice)

As others have said, the bonuses don't work out. If you check the DMG, theres a section on this. The stats are not equal, sorry boys and girls, but as per the DMG they are not. So that +1,+2, doesn ot equal to a -3 Cha.

Also, if you look at other races that have +2 Str, they have -2 Wis, -2 Cha. So maybe something like.. +2 Str, +2 Dex, -2 Wis, -2 Cha or something.

Oh come on now, don't get discouraged just because others suggested some changes. Just test the suggestions out and I am sure eventually your race will be perfected.
