Spider Queen

My brother just got me like 6 d&d books for my birthday, 3 of em were novels, War of the spider queen I, II, and III (Dissolution, Insurrection, and Condemnation respectively) anyone know anything about these books? i don't have time to read them now, but maybe closer the end of the year or next year sometime if i get a spare moment, has anyone read these? My brother raves about them and he reads a lot so i've got a good impression of them so far.

I've read #1 and #2....good books, imo.

I haven't had the chance for those, but anyone read George RR Martin's series? Now thats goood reading. Anyone else gearing up for the new release?

>me get him?
>are you insane?
Spider Queen
Yeah, you know I do Tux
Feast of Crows still has no release date though...
Lord of Castle Black and host of the never-ending party. Collects Morganti weapons and illegal books. Likes Eastern brandy, his sword Blackwand, and going on killing sprees.
Spider Queen
George RR Martin?

Spider Queen
Game of Thrones, Clash of Kings, Storm of Swords (in that order). Really good fantasy books, take a look at them.

i still haven't gotten a real answer, Dielzen, you said you read them, what kind of books are they?
-Avi
Spider Queen
HA, no one likes you
Am I gunna have to RP with myself, again?
Spider Queen
If they are anything like the Dark Elf Trilogy, they have to be good. I am reading those right now, almost through Exile.

They're nothing like the Drizzt series. The Drow in the books are male and don't like female drow, that's about where the similarities end.
These books focus a lot on plotting and intrigue between houses (and cities) and the women trying to cover up the fact that Lolth can't grant them spells. They're more murder/intrigue with action sprinkled in.

You talking about Solace?.. I like Solace ô.o

thank you dunlop....
But anyways, my brother read all of the spider queen series, and he reads like a mofo, lots of forgotten realms books recently have been covering his shelves. He just finished the drizzt series when he stayed the weekend at home the last few days, and he said they were similar in the style of stories, mostly D&D revolving but he said those were much better, he read one and then found everything by the author and read them all, he read like 4 books in a week...he's fucking psychotic, but i think i'm just gonna spend some spare time and at least read the first one, then since apparantly nobody on here has read them i'll write a short little critique and tell you all to buy it, all propaganda like and stuff....or tell you it sucks, either way there's no in between, it's gonna be excellent or shitty, i've found that's a commonplace in D&D based books. Pool of radiance's novel imo was under the shitty and hopefully the was of the spider queen is under the excellent category. more updates later.

Spider Queen
so okay, update:
i've finally gottens ome time to start the reading and everything
i'm reading the spider queen series
adn i highly recommend them, they're so awesome and they really give you open eyes of great ideas for dm's and really innovative ways of thinking for players. plus they're awesome books, especially for nerds like us into this nerdy fantasy shit
HIGHLY recommended

So, you got the first three War of the Spider Queen books? IMO you are a very lucky person. I am currently rereading them (Finishing book 3) and I consider them very good books. Still it is a matter of preference but I think you might like them.
Kobolds, mans best friend.
Spider Queen
Yeah i finished all of them. the ending was sub-par imo. Couldve been a little more exciting.
No news is good news
Spider Queen
well, my critiquie isa..
AMAZING creativity,
very in depth writing style which is kind of boring and yet if you're wide awake and really into it absolutely amazing
VERY cool
could have moved a bit faster
all in all, i give it an A-/B+
-Avi
Spider Queen
hmm, i havnt read the 3 books but my freind has em so im going to try and borrow those
Spider Queen
try to get a hold of them, they've got lots of innovative ideas that i've manipulated and put into my games, there's some sick and crazy shit in there, and it really puts a personal perspective on what an evil character really is like. If you get involved sometimes it can really hurt because backstabbing is all around and the emotional pain involved in the stories is enthralling

Spider Queen
holy crap i'm now on book V out of VI, i am so excited, this series is so super awesome. I gave book three to Karlth, and he started reading, and he's hooked now, he backtracked and read two and now he's on four reading one book behind me. This series really tells you how to play a chaotic evil character, shows true betrayal, anger, hatred, and how many fucking impossible to pronounce drow names there are.
here are a couple of REAL examples!
Sschindylryn
Zammzt
Mizzrym
Menzoberranzan (this is the easiest in my opinion)
Then there's three names that i can't for the life of me pronounce differently
Pharaun
Vhaerun
Faerun
wtf...
i hate drow language, but the books are amazing
-Avi
Spider Queen
imo..
Sschindylryn: shin-dil-rin
Zammzt: zam-zt
Mizzrym: miz-rim
Menzoberranzan: men-zo-bAr-an-zan
Pharaun: far-roon
Vhaerun: vay-roon
Faerun: fay-roon

after much deliberation, i figured them out, but the fact is i had to pause my reading to sound it out, so it didn't sound like gibberish in my head
