V:tM Have you ever played this game?
Hi all,
my newest discovery though it is pretty old already is Vampire: the Masquerade.
I still can't really describe what this game really is about but it was fun so far. But now as a vampire embraced 3 or 4 weeks before I am still quite lost in this World of Details err..Darkness. Something like a background story a movie, something that describes it quite good and not too timewasting is needed. I'm still not sure if this game really kicks ass or if it is me who thinks it does but I might be wrong and it is just about 'corny' stories. Something like Lord of the Rings which would be a good movie to describe a world of fantasy, I think...you can follow me? you still there? =P
Meanwhile I've seen "Queen of the damned" and in this movie they use a whole bunch of V:tM rules so to speak. I'm not commenting this movie at all right here but it gave me an idea how a World of Darkness the way Vampire the Masquerade is played could look like.
Anyway....I wonder if you might share some experiences you made. Right now anything is helpful actually but I would be glad to hear about your stories. What happened to you?
I am also interested in stories about those werecreatures or demons and mages since it all takes place in one and the same world, right?
And there are also these ...ugh fairies. I've never seen a fairie in the castle of count dracula before actually. Have you?

in a way i have played it, in another way i havent...
in the way i have, i played the demo very brifely for the computer.
from what i hear (cause the demo was very limited) its very good for those who love to do hugh story ideas, and alows you to do so, and put it online for others to see
in the way i havent, i havent had a chance to play, let alone learn the pen and paper rules of the game.

Thanks for paying attention to this, Milo.
You are right this game is a good game if you want huge stories...though not necessary.
I was looking...well I still am... for storylines, what is the plotline you played through? I don't know why but I for some reasons believe this game is not just D&D in a different environment and all these different clans they have that more or less fight each other and as soon as it comes to a game all the players from all these different clans stick together as if they've been best friends all the time.
Well, Gachnar has been nice and told me in his game the coterie/party had to stop another clan from taking over a city. This is quite easy and it surely works. In the end when he told me this I felt like "Oh that easy!! The orcs invade the town...erm...the Gangrel do"
Well, if you read these books you'll find a lot of paragraphs talking about tragedy and conflicts of the remaining humanity and the beast that lurks deep inside each character. I wondered about how these conflicts look like and if they turn out as corny stuff, like you spend a lot of time makinig notes on a paper and you get deeply involved into your character but all thats needed is your skill and your stat here and there. I wondered how a plotline or a scene you experienced in a game that confronts you with inner conflicts would look like and if so if someone would be nice and type it down here.
May be it inspires not just me.
If this game is about this inner conflict then there shouldn't be just vampires, lupines or whatever to fight against. There should be more.
Might be just me of course who thinks it simply has to be more complex and thats why I got stuck at this.
I can't help myself ... I end up as 'Angel' or 'Buffy' if I read about this. But this can't be the way it is, right?
Don't argue with idiots. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

well personally i have somewhat avoided this system like a plague weidling m60's. point being was a sat in on whatever few games i could without being ether ordered to leave, or me getting sidetracked and leaving myself. the system looks scarey and complex. as for the time frame it reminds me of a sort of Fallout or Modern rpgesque to it only with vampires and the like.....being the whole point to the system. while i'm not downgrading the quality of the system or the games that use it. to me it just seems to complicated for the like, that and they're aren't enough games on opnpw with plots i have been interested in persuing. I'd take a good game over a game to get dnd out of my system any day of the month. but anywho i may look into it more and maybe it will bring some light to the situation. but other then that i know that the people who have and do play it find it very enjoyable and play it often.

I am happy to see someone is showing interest in vampire the masquarade...
Vampire the Masquarade is somewhat similar to dnd. You can make it a warlike game, just pure combat game, pure roleplay or mixup. But it is definitely not just dnd...
In this game clans are just groups of similar people with similar goals. But they are not necessarily like best friends. Heck their can be even enemies within the clan, which makes a good story plot by itself. And that part about one clan stopping another clan from taking over the city.....
Heh, to me that sounds like a boring and repetitive wargame from the 90s. It's nothing of that sort, ofcourse if your dm really wanted to, he/she can make that part of the story line. But..there are plenty more options to choose from, for example, in vtm you are not supposed to slaughter people in public or show vampiric powers to humans. If you do it..and if you do it intentionally you gain clan leader's attention...and that's not a good thing. You can also piss them off by frequent "embrace" which is a process of making other humans vampires. Those can prove to be good story plots.. also if are more into warlike sceneries you can have a war with the lupines- the warewolves. They just want to destroy all vampires anyway..so war with them sounds more realistic. Another good story plot may be...an uprising rebellious group of vampires wants to eliminate elders to take over the clans themselves...actually that would be a very good story. Anyway my point is vampires the masquarade is not a rpg that will bore you. I mean you can bring in anything into it...love, sex, violence, politics, war...it's just absolutely the best.
Anyway let me share with you one of my gaming experience. The story was about a vampire that fell in love with his mortal slave. Although he could have done anything with the mortal slave, he wanted more..he wanted the slave to love him unforcefully. So he took it upon himself, to search for the banned and sacred process of breaking the conneciton between a slave and his master. And..After doing so the slave did fell in love with the vampire...but it caused the elders to be extremely angered. So they made us..the pc group to hunt them down and slaughter them with extreme prejudice. But after we met them, melted by their story of love, we sided with them. But we knew that this will cause the clan elders to send massive troops of vampires to exterminate us. So we allied ourselves with the cursed lupines and broke another law... and I think this post has been long enough..
It's just that I hate to see my favorite rpg to be compared to the likes of buffy and angel...
I hope someday you realize what great game this is..
On your spare time just read over some clanbooks ...you can create great amounts of story plots from them...
have fun.

Buffy and Angel were my last resort to get the info I guess. lol.
Too bad I don't know who you are. At least not right now.
I bet this was a real life session you played in, right?

Many thanks to both of you. I am not really amused reading all this books just to get a better overview or feeling and therefor slightly impatient close to frenzy at times.

Wow..the only time I've had a campaign of that depth was the rescue of the Duke from the Kugelwassers...my PC's held off my hobgoblin army from the pyramid entrance they were exploring (waaay too long a story to describe out here). Ah..how I miss Gratuluk the Maimed, the Orc-a-Cola sponsored gladiator who only had 1 arm and one leg at the end fighting off hobgoblins...but I digress into nostalgia mode. I have to agree with our guest in that VtM is what you make of it, and that you can do a whole lot with it if you and your players are motivated.

vtm
yeah...sorry that guest is me.
Anyway..I would love to run a vtm game more than anything. It's just that time is not cooperating with me at this moment. I am very free monday to wednesday, and sometimes sunday. But most rpers here seems to be free only on weekends..and that's basically the problem.
If you and few others are still available on those days and are interested in playing, give me few weeks and we will start one.
I know few weeks is a long time, it's just that I moved three times in last couple of months, and I am not quite settled yet..
Anyway..I do think there's a vtm session going on right now on opnpw...or was when I left. If it's still running I won't bother running a different session and I would rather join that one. Because ..probably what will happen is noone will show interest in the game when it starts and that's not good. But if all goes well and if no other vtm campaign is running right now, we will start one before november ends.

Oh no Dark, they are all dead believe me. I see so many people on during the weekdays...you have to come on more often I think. If you started up STing a VtM I'm sure a few players would flock to your game.

Yes...long time indeed. Hey Alica.
That's great..
If Morrolan runs it..and more people joins then me running it, let it be. I would just love to be in a vtm campaign, whether I be a dm or player makes no difference.
I do have few ideas i think would be great for a vtm campaign. Just give me few days I will post a background story and my house rules.
I do remember a year or two ago I was trying to start up a vtm campaign in dndo. Few players were interested but I left for a vacation. I know some of you guys are still here, and if you are still interested, please join, and let me make up for the past.

"Don't let history... happen to you."
V:tM Have you ever played this game?
Well, considering nothing has really been said about mages and if they will take place in the upcoming game, I'm not really against including many different games in one since they all take place in the same World of Darkness but still here comes my simple question:
Can we keep this simple?
I don't wanna be the party-pooper. No not at all. I just feel like they all should add a nice story that shows the plotline of what they went through in their Vampire game or enlight me what these 'supernatural creatures' again are and how they can work together with Vampires before anything else.

background and setting
I don't intend to mix up, To tell you the truth, I am not familiar with Mages The ascention, this game will be solely based on Vampire The Masquarade.
Here's the background and setting.
The Setting:
An economically depressed world that is full of violence, corrupted governments, churches that lies in almost every corner of the streets with bright banners, flags and priests that have more power then the mayor of the city, architecturally beautiful old buildings with worn out paint jobs which is decorated by old statues and sculptures, dirty streets with two or three street lights whose lights are perpetually blinking and giving off a dim light, dance clubs whose names are brightened by the neon lights, underground subways that are filled with criminal organizations, drug addicts, screams of innocent victims and some deranged humans with bibles under their arms that are repetitively shouting out their messages- “There’s still time, Return to God, He forgives everything”, with a dying ecosystem, where the sun seems to become less glistening every day, enormous factories that contributes to the destruction of the natural balance, a puppet police force, forests with trees whose leaves have taken unearthly colors, and at last...it’s the place where the predators wander around surreptitiously looking for preys.
House Rules- I don’t have many, only clans of Camarilla , all independent clans except followers of set are also allowed., but if you have set your minds on some other clans, just talk it over with me and we will work something out. Game will run with 11th generation players. (I will probably add some more soon)
Background Story
Return of the Brute: First Stroke of Jyhad?
One of the Elders of the Mysterious Inner Circle of the Camarilla has gone insane. Rumor has it he tried to take out one of the major governing force during a secret conclave (who is rumored to be a powerful Methuselah). He wasn’t immediately killed because of his contributions at past, but perhaps this was a grave mistake done by other elders, because he escaped. Everything calmed down after a period of confusion and puzzlement after a simple explanation: the elder lost his mind, and he can no longer control the beast that lives within him. Camarilla sent out scourges to take out the old man and put an end to the risk of exposure.
A century has passed...
More then few elders have vanished within last two weeks. All kindreds were bewildered by this, even the Sabbats, but they were wise enough to use it to their advantage. They took over some of the domains that were once controlled by Camarilla clans, which were weakened by the news of their elders’ disappearance. Although puzzled and somewhat afraid by the new situation, the elders knew they must put an end to this, or else Sabbats will run amok and the balance will be destroyed. Besides...they had other things to worry about now...
Society of Leopold, after so many years, still managed to somehow survive. And it seems they are under new management. This is proving to be an increasing headache for all kindreds. Society of Leopold seems to have a tracker within them with abilities that is almost impossible for a vampire hunter to possess. It seems they have a heightened sense for kindreds..almost as if they established a kind of telepathic link. Some kindred claim these new trackers are cathayanas, but that has not been confirmed.....yet.
----xxxx----
You have been all scourges for quite a time now, you have done your job well enough to make your prince satisfied with your performance. Now you have been all been summoned to a convocation called by justicars in San Francisco. Perhaps this time they will finally recognize the hard work you have been doing so far and yet controlling your own beasts that lives within you...or perhaps it’s something else.
----xxxx----
Ah yes..leave a comment.

The scourge story things is just an optional sample background story. Nothing Else. You can either stick to that or make your own characters, backgrounds, we will just have to link them to the main storyline, so that we are all in the same path.
And now if anyone is still interested, post in misc and say something, and then we will actually have a foundation to stand on. Non Vtm players are also welcome, I am half done through a tutorial that will walk newcomers through the character creation, and few important stuff you need to know before playing. I will be gone till someday..after that ...we will see

Yet another question
Another question: Has anyone of you ever tried out those games with a real lot of players? Those games where 40+ players i.e. run around in New York by night. Or did someone talk to one of those guys who run sessions like this? I wonder about the difference between the styles compared to the style where always the same people stay in the same coterie all over the time. I think they use to play it this way on White-wolf's site. I would be glad if you share your experiences with this style of playing the game. I actually think especially for V:tM this style of playing the game might be more the way it should be played though of course this depends on the story itself. What do you think about this?
Btw. http://www.white-wolf.com doesn't work for me for a long time now.
Does it work for you?

Not unless you count my disastrous Star Wars gaming experience with 15 PC's at a time...generally a smaller roleplaying group is good, unless you have more than 1 DM doing different things with different players but then its just too damn complicated (at least for me). In VtM I think the less players the better, allowing for more detailed character development which I believe VtM pushes more than its DnD counterpart.

I mean online....
and of course the is not the old way of handling sessions anymore. more like a lot of sessions all dynamically linked to each other.
well thats what I think about it. I dunno yet. just wondering.

You mean like having 5 or so 'coteries' within a setting, all with the same DM? It'd take a Herculean DM and lots of patience, and the potential benefits from such a game are far outweighed by the sheer enormity of that task. Maybe I'm just really lazy.

I don't think that's possible either. I think that kinda game can only be possible in a forum....or it would just take atleast one month just to finish one session. And ...wow I truly feel sorry for that DM.

Well... I don't know exactly that's why I ask. But if you look at WW's site in the interactive chapter they offer chatrooms to play with a lot of ST's all working together to provide an environment for a lot of players. So it works....somehow....or at least that's the idea. I wondered if someone experienced such a thing and found out if it is fun and if this works out fine or not. It is not just WW some more guys did this, too. I guess it is a matter of the setting and how STs if there are that many players can work together or if it is only one ST then time is a matter of course, too.
Anyway... doesn't look like you both tried this out.
And since it took a while to get an answere on this I guess there is no one around who did so, so far.
May be I should :?

Is there a game in process that i can join...? if not, is anyone willing to start one...?
