Woods Lake, known locally simply as 'Town'. Population sixteen thousand (approximately). Nestled between lake Jade and the dense Huntsmans Wood (aka, the lake, and the woods), and ringed by nearly impassable mountains who all hold names among the locals such as 'Misers peak', 'Lowell's Rock', 'The Craig', 'Mt Jubilee' etc. The lake, as you can easily suspect, in the summer time is coloured jade from the minerals in the waters that trickle down the mountains in cold streams that freeze over in the middle of autumns agony, only to nearly overflow again in the spring thaw with the winter runoff from the mountains. In the winter it is not unlikely for one to find moose, elk, bear, and wolves wandering the streets, scavenging for whatever food can be found, and year round the howling of wolves can be heard on quiet nights, summer and winter alike. The Huntsmans Wood (sometimes known as 'hunters wood') runs thick up the mountains and presumeably down the other side in emrald and dark jade foresty shades year round, and save for a winter dusting of snow, one would imagine it unchanging from the age of most of the trees. By all accounts Woods Lake and its surroundings is avery beautiful area.

The town itself is fairly ordinary, though a bit backwater. It has a tv station that seems to mostly have reruns of old cartoons in the eatrly mornings, the news at five (and when there is no news, just the usual small town banter one can figure in such a place) and ends at night with whatever sort of movies can be found in the studio, usually old black and white films painstakingly transferred to whatever sort of device is used to display it onto a screen and then beam it over the town from whatever archaic style of film material that was used in the late 60s/early 70's. the televisions only other channel is a silent frequency graph in black and white that can only be picked up from the most high quality antennaes, and there are several folks in town who have rigged up their household with makeshift antennae just to boast that their television gets BOTH channels. It also has a small radio station that mostly plays old music on 108.2 FM, and all other frequencies are just white noise varying in pitch and volume. The radio also has talk shows, whenever someone has something worthwhile to say, or just wants to be on the radio. The town has no outside lines to the outside world, and even the telephone line is only local, with a small office somewhere in town with a few operators to manually hook one up to the person asked for. The fire department is volunteer run, and theres only a small police force of maybe six officers and a station sharing that with the fire department, with a total of three cells for the usual small town drunks and troublemakers.

No roads lead into Woods Lake, and certainly no roads lead out. Contact with the world at large is a rare thing indeed, if not unheard of completely, but that does not seem to bother the denzins of the town. It has a nice school where every child is educated to at least tenth grade, a non denominational church with its very own Father Alan who lives on the property, with the peaceful if rundown St. Mary's Cemetary. The Library seems to have no books made after the early 80s and knowledge of the world is really only findable through ancient atlasses with pages yellowed from age and use. In fact, the newspaper (The Woods Lake Gazette, referred to as the WLG, or wulg) is wholly made up of volunteers who have something to say.

Clothing is made locally, and all food and crops are also grown, harvested, or raised and butchered locally as well. A self-sufficient community. Houses are usually log cabins, though somewhat more modern (early 80's) houses can be found here and there, and most places have an outhouse, sometimes one for a few houses. Roads are usually dirt paths, sometimes cobbled with flagstones or overgrown with grass as only one person owns a car, and it has run out of gas long ago, and now sits in old man mcgregors front lawn, an old '66 Falcon, rusting away, colour now unknown.

The municpal government of the area, a mayor and seven city councillors try their best to uphold a morally sound and working community and thus far seem to have done well. The city has a small clinic/sanitarium/old folks home and the doctor does house calls. A park is in the middle of town around a great ancient oak that has stood there as far as anyone remembers and many a child has climbed up its branches and seen the whole town laid out before them.

The people seem well and friendly, though seem to have traditional ideas regarding certain subjects and go about their lives and their jobs with seeming wuiet contentment.

But there is a problem. You awaken one day in the alley, wearing good clothes, not rags, but not a fine armani suit either, with no knowledge of your past, forty dollars in your pocket, and personal effects such as a wedding ring, a picture of a someone you cannot remember, or a necklace... but nothing that defines you or what happened. All you know is your name, the year (2k5, spring, though the month eludes you), your date of birth, and the vague notion that something is amiss, though you cannot place your finger upon it. By your clothes, you don't seem to be from these parts...

Who are you? How did you come to be here? What happened? Just where IS Woods Lake? Why are there others like you showing up? And from your waking groggy haze, were you drugged? Were you drunk?

This is a roleplaying investigation-type campaign that will not run for very long. The objective is to find out who you are, what happened, and deciding what to do about it once you find out.

That being said, it will use basic d20 rules as can be found in the call of cthulhu d20 book (if you need the info, just ask, its fairly straightforeward) using those skills and feats.. minus 'cthulhu mythos' of course. Its the most basic d20 rules i have on hand with a sizeable list of equipment and specific firearms etc, i will be using it myself as a guide. Stats are the elite array, cause hey, your not a hero, your joe shmoe in a strange situation (elite array: 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8). and Human, of course (with the extra feat at lvl 1, of course). You are level two. I will require aside from the basic mechanics stuff a rundown of your basic appearance (gentlemen, starting off you have a day and a half at leasts worth of stubble if you are cleanshaven and your hair is a mess, ladies, you are without makeup and your hair is a mess), and a detailed background,a s you will slowly remember throughout the campaign. Detailed in this way: I want to know your characters life up to 'recently', meaning, your childhood friends, any major events in your past, your parents, favoured and unfavoured school teachers, your job, your past jobs, your religious devotions, your friends, your loves, whether or not you have a criminal record etc. The Works. Yes. The Works. I want you to make the background a separate file, send it to me, and after making sure I have it, delete it from your computer. Yes. Delete it and any copies made of it. Keep only your date of birth and your name. Yes. I am serious here. Your skills are not affected by your memory lapse, but you may have to rediscover some or all of them. When making the character dont think in terms of 'this campaign' think in terms of building a person that would function in nromal everyday society of the present day. Please.

It will be run wednesday nights at some time, and might run late, then again it might not. It will not be a long running campaign, 3 months tops. New characters partway in will arrive in similar state as the beginners.

Interested parties please state so below.

*poke* If its the system, if someone can point out a more basic d20 system, one that people would actually play, it would be awesome. Otherwise.. whats the problem with this concept...?
