I was wondering what language Tux uses to create the program i have a really crappy initiative program i can give him that keeps the order of people and thier initiatives and i was curious cause i know a little C++ i coul maybe provide assistance with expanding the program.
i'm not sure if this is were to post so forgiveme if its in the wrong place.

VB6 I believe. Or maybe Java.
Definately not made using C++ though, Tux considered it at one point I believe, but then realized he had already finished everything and decided not to redo everything just for lower memory requirements.
As for helping out, I can't say. Ask Tux directly (PM or IM)

It's VB, and with all due respect, if Tux wants an initiative program, he'll code it himself. :) No offense intended, but, well, Tux is a pretty darn knowledgeable programmer. The reason OPnPW doesn't have bells and whistles like that is through no lack of his skill, but rather because he isn't able to spend a lot of time working on a program that is basically a hobby.

Although, just because Tux can program it doesn't mean he can invent it. :O

Right now, our current initaive system works out to "Open Notepad (Built into PnP or otherwise), type out the names and put the numbers next to it."
And
Each player puts their init before their name.

If you've got a better idea for keeping track of init, we'd very much appreciate hearing it :D .

That, and, if PnP's predecessor has taught us anything, it's that bells and whistles make things more complex, not simple. Like, 5 tabs of information, a silly combat mode, tables of quite literally bajillions of stuff, CSes where you can't add new spells or items, etc...
Throw all of that stuff out and just use notepad, it's cleaner and safer. (I thought PnP had Notepad CSes, I guess they're in the next version I don't have.)

They were xml character sheets. Only worked for a short time, I think.

Indeed. In my many arguements I have had with Tux I have found that he has indeed used VB to code OPnPW. Also he is working on a java release for sometime (hopefully) in the future. This would mean (if he did all the networking stuff. I am not sure how different they do that stuff) OPnPW could reach a much, much larger audience because it would work on any (or almost any) OS out there. This was my initial arguement for using C++. Oh well, it is his program. Hopefully he will soon tell us of his future plans.

Well,
First off I'd like to thank the supportive and ever-more congnitive community as to OPnPW's development.
And, coding in C++ would only margianlly give me portability. Basicly abstracting it:
Core
UI
Network
CHaracter sheets
The only part of that, that would be re-used, would be the core. Everything else would be re-written platform to platform, unless I went with like GTK, which would give me the UI too. all in all, VB lets me flesh out ideas I have, rapidly.
I enjoy working with OPnPW and bringing a product to help people out, and will always strive to do so as best as possible. But its just my hobby and gift right now, I don't want to, and won't try to make a living off of it.
I won't lie, my current development copy will not compile because of mid-changes. But I also will not release a half-assed addon, everything will be done as best as I can reasonably do.
Thanks
Brad B.
