Player's Handbook 2

I was really bored last night and was searching wizards website and found out that they plan to realease a phb2.

the only details they said though were:

Quote:
A follow-up to the Player’s Handbook designed to aid players and provide more character options.

The Player’s Handbook II builds upon existing materials in the Player’s Handbook. This is the first direct followup to the best-selling and most used D&D rulebook. It is specifically designed to expand the options available for players by both providing new material and increasing the uses for existing rules. Included are chapters on character race, background, classes, feats, spells, character creation, and character advancement. New rules include racial affiliations that make race matter as a character advances in level, new character classes and alternate class features for existing classes, new feats, tools for rapid character creation, and additional organization and teamwork benefits -- an option first introduced in Dungeon Master’s Guide II and Heroes of Battle.

According to the site the book is coming out in 5/2006.

I thought the news was awesome. I love the DMG2 so I can't wait to see what comes out in the PHB2.

i didn't even know there was a dmg2. what's in it?

the phb2 sounds good. i might even pick it up. i like the idea of race mattering more as you level up.

So do I. The DMG2 is all about how to be a better DM and make your campaign interesting to your your players.

I always figured it was already out. Expecially considering all the other core books have their sequel out already.

Either way, should be worth a peek at the very least.

I picked this book up shortly after it came out in stores (ie, less than 24 hours, apparently). Definately worth the pick up.

Not only does it give you additional character options for the standard classes (including many from the Complete series), it also gives you 4 classes that, in my opinion, are definately very cool, two of which I love to death. Moreover, it gives you pages after pages of roleplaying aids, ideas, and suggestions. And these aren't suggestions geared just for new roleplayers, either. I myself feel I've picked a thing up or two from the book.

Finally, I think I like the last section of the book the most. On the final few pages, it gives you a sort of 'quick generation' guideline. This part rules. It gives you ideas and ways to build your character extremely quickly, regardless of level (even more useful for quick NPC creation, something I greatly appreciate).

The feats and spells are also pretty cool. Some spells I thought were particularily creative, Cloud of Knives in particular. Nothing in those sections amazed me, though, like a good number of spells from the Spell Compendium did.

All in all, I have to give this book a 9/10, and not a 10 because of its price tag. I think $35 for a suppliment to a core book is somewhat pricey, but if you've got the money, its likely worth it for the use you'll probably get from the book.

Definately gets the official Saber Seal of Approval.

I was skeptical at first to beleive it had anything of real value in it.. but the new class material + roleplaying tips sound appealing.

What were the four new classes?

Beguiler (What I think of when I think of Illusionists)
Dragon Shaman (Fighter type that gets special dragon-related abilities and resistances)
Duskblade (These are what Hexblades should have been)
Knight (Fucking awesome knight conversion)

I have some players in my rl games that need some assistance in the field of being able to roleplay better, do you think it's worth it? I'll pay the 35 dollars just to improve their roleplaying, cuz frankly it takes away from the game severely at times

Player's Handbook 2

It doesn't so much tell them how to roleplay, it just gives them insanely good aids. One that I thought was just phenominal was a sidebar they had for Fighters regarding scars. I plan on doing it for all of my future characters for whenever they get criticalled on, or whenever they suffer damage in a unique or humorous manner.

Basically, the sidebar mentioned how it brings life and flavor to your character if he has memories tied to certain battle wounds he recieved. One example straight from the book:

Quote:
Serrated Scar on Brow: "The lich said 'run' and I ran--right into its sarcophagus. Knocked me silly, but the pain washed away the fear."

Another thing that's really good for newbies is a section that simply helps them be better players, by keeping track of paperwork, durations, etc. to basically take the load off the DM. Cuz, well, any DM knows who does the most work during a given gaming session. Sticking out tongue

Ya, I just got it also. Also I liked the Organization Affiliation part. Gives you a feel of connection to something and gives your character more of a reason for what he does.

You guys think this ones gonna be a must then? Or at least worth picking up. Damn my budget ><

i don't think it's necessary at all, but it's a great supplement. The word necessary is definitely not appropriate, just awesome to have.

Player's Handbook 2

Aye, Its only necessary if you think that you must add anything completely awesome to your arsenal. It has its share of new mechanics for those rulemongers, and its share of roleplaying props for those more into theatrics than swords.
