A Lost Cause (D&D 3.5e) [Currently full]
Since it seems like the currently running games are dying and no others are really getting off the ground...
I'm looking to start a new 3.5e game. I'd like to play on Tuesdays or Fridays (basically any time on those days), but any day (other than Monday and Wednesday nights) from midnight CST to 3am CST works for me. I'll start with some character generation information, and we'll go from there.
Player List: New!
Muds as a -race- Dragon Shaman? (Warrior)
Aramil as a Gnome Beguiler (Expert) [Almost Done!]
Solace as a Human Cleric (Divine)
Arch as a Human Duskblade (Arcane) [Almost Done!]
Mel as Ward, the Warforged Artificer (Support) [Done!]
??? as Tortheldrin, the Elven Knight (Bonus!) [Done!]

Small size (Better for dial-up)
Background: New!
In times long past, the world was absolutely littered with giant, magical boulders known as Node Stones. Usually they were found separately, but on occasion Node Stones were found in pairs or triples; these groupings of Node Stones were particularly powerful, as they were often linked with each other and therefore were capable of channeling incredible magic.
As one might imagine, these stones were coveted by the power-hungry, and many wars were started over possession of a collection of Node Stones. Most Node Stones have been destroyed due to these wars; either by those that feared their power or by those unwilling to have them fall into the hands of an enemy. Few still remain, and those that do are either yet unfound or heavily protected...
...Except for those of Stones' Glenn. In Stone's Glenn, there's not just one, two, or even a set of three Node Stones. There's a set of five, the single largest grouping of Node Stones in recorded history. So why, then, are the stones of Stones' Glenn just out in the open, completely unguarded?
No one has ever been able to get them to channel magic. They're utterly useless. Innumerable wizards and druids and sages have converged on Stones' Glenn over the ages to attempt to use the Node Stones, but all have walked away disappointed. The townspeople of Stones' Glenn jokingly remark that their stones are the most magical of them all. After all, there's never been a war over the stones of Stones' Glenn...
Character Introductions: New!
-name-, the -race- -class- -
Zook, the Gnome Beguiler -
-name-, the Human Cleric -
-name-, the Human Duskblade -
Ward, the Warforged Artificer - Ward only recently gained sentience, but his body is many decades old. His body was one of the first warforged created, but when the war he was intended for ended abruptly (with the Node Stone it was being fought over having been teleported to a different plane), it ended up in a vault deep underground with numerous other inanimate warforged, forgotten for a number of decades...
Well, not entirely forgotten, apparently. Right around two years ago, a small cabal of cultists dedicated to the ultimate rise of the machines over mortals snuck into the vault and stole the warforged bodies. They used an underground Node Stone to animate the warforged, hoping to create an army of machines to bring about the downfall of mortals. Unfortunately for the cultists, the cabal was found out long before they had a force large enough to do much of anything and were eliminated, along with the Node Stone they were using.
Being one of the earliest warforged, Ward's body is heavily armored and somewhat crude-looking compared to newer models of warforged. He came to Stones' Glenn shortly after animation, hoping to learn something about Node Stones and perhaps learn about the methods by which he was created.
Tortheldrin, the Elven Knight - Born to the heads of House Laehnnal, a now fading house of elven nobles that were once in control of a powerful Node Stone, Tortheldrin lived a sheltered childhood in the elven village Alidahl. He rarely interacted with the other elven children, and had very few friends. Even as a young lad, Tortheldrin had a well-known temper and was quick to start a fight. It wasn't until later, though, would he decide to become a warrior, and to learn to channel his anger.
During his adolescent years, House Laehnnal became involved in the affairs of the humans, and came to the defense of a sorely outmatched human kingdom during one of the many Stone Wars. Thanks to his family's intervention, the lesser human side was victorious, despite heavy losses to elven house and human kingdom alike. All the elves asked for in return was mutual protection were they to ever be attacked. The humans agreed, and soon two dozen human soldiers arrived in Alidahl. These soldiers claimed to have been sent by the allied kingdom, sent to protect elven and human interests, and vowed loyalty to House Laehnnal...
No more than but a week later, the soldiers attacked during the night. They slew any elves that resisted, and held the rest captive. Young Tortheldrin was one of the many elves captured, and could only watch as his father was slain when he tried to rebel against the soldiers. The soldiers were after the Node Stone's power, but before any were able to make use of it, Merripheas, a reknown elven archmage of House Laehnnal, managed to teleport the Node Stone far away before he too was cut down by the soldiers.
With their objective now lost, the attackers left Alidahl. Afterwards, when questioned, the human kingdom denied any knowledge of the soldiers, and labeled the men 'traitors' and 'savages'. Ever since, the elves and nearby humans have maintained a wary peace.
It wasn't soon after the attack at Alidahl that Tortheldrin left House Laehnnal, feeling that his family allowed themselves to become weak and thus deserved their fate. He has since arrived in Stones' Glenn, and often finds work guarding local merchants heading to nearby cities. It's uncertain as to what his goals are in life, as he rarely speaks with anyone.
Character Generation:
I'm looking for 5 1st level characters. Please follow the below rules for character creation. If you are interested in playing, please post what race and class you'd like to play (as well as what class 'group' you chose to fill).
Note - I want all characters to be filled out using my own personal character sheet. You can find this sheet here (RichText file format).
Ability Scores - Ability scores are generated using the point-buy method, with 32 points to start with. Use the following chart to determine the cost for a particular ability score:
Score - Cost
18 - - - 16
17 - - - 13
16 - - - 10
15 - - - 8
14 - - - 6
13 - - - 5
12 - - - 4
11 - - - 3
10 - - - 2
9 - - - 1
8 - - - 0
I recommend using the following array - 16, 15, 14, 12, 10, 10
Race - The available races are those in the 3.5e Player's Handbook as well as some found in the Eberron Campaign Setting. The list of available races can be found below:
Changeling*
Dwarf (Hill)
Elf (High)
Gnome (Rock)
Half-Elf
Half-Orc
Halfling (Lightfoot)
Human
Shifter*
Warforged*
*Changelings, Shifters, and Warforged are found in the Eberron Campaign Setting. You must have this book to play a character from one of these races.
Classes - In the interest of making sure the party is balanced, each player has to choose a single group (warrior, expert, divine, arcane, and support). Each group can only be chosen once, and the classes available to each group are as follows:
Warrior: Barbarian, Dragon Shaman*, Fighter, Knight*, Paladin, Ranger
Expert: Bard, Beguiler*, Ranger, Rogue, Scout*
Divine: Cleric, Dragon Shaman*, Druid, Paladin
Arcane: Bard, Duskblade*, Sorcerer*, Wizard*
Support: Artificer*, Bard, Dragon Shaman*, Duskblade*, Ranger, Scout*
*Beguilers, Dragon Shamans, Duskblades, and Knights are found in the Player's Handbook II. You must have this book to play a character from one of these classes.
Artificers are found in the Eberron Campaign Setting. You must have this book to play a character from this class.
Scouts are found in the Complete Adventurer. You must have this book to play a character from this class.
Sorcerers do not gain a familiar at 1st level. Instead, a Sorcerer can apply metamagic feats that they know to their spells without increasing the casting time.
Wizards must specialize in a school of magic. Also, Wizards do not gain a familiar at 1st level. Instead, they get special abilities based upon their specialized school.
Wealth - To determine starting wealth, assume you rolled a 3 on each d4 your class is supposed to roll. For example, a Fighter normally gets 6d4 x 10gp to start. A Fighter would start with 180gp (6 x 3 x 10gp).
A character cannot start with any item worth more than 100gp.
Misc - Characters will start with 5 Action Points (AP). AP can be used with certain feats (found in the Eberron Campaign Setting), certain Artificer abilities, and most importantly, to modify any d20 roll. When you use an AP to modify a d20 roll, you roll 1d6 and add the result to your roll. Each level, you gain a fresh supply of AP, so its wise to use your AP freely.
Finally, anything from the following books are fair game (you must get prior approval from me before using anything in any book other than the PHB):
Player's Handbook
Player's Handbook II
Spell Compendium
Eberron Campaign Setting
Complete Warrior
Complete Divine
Complete Arcane
Complete Adventurer

so are you killing off d20m or..?

As of right now, there is no actual time that would work for all three d20m players + the DM. Steve can't play late, and Alex can't play early.

I can play anytime at all until the 12th. After that I can only play Tuesdays or Thursdays after 6:30 and Saturday at noon until Sunday at noon. Let me know if this works well enough to play.

Mel, sorry, but that'd be kinda silly to have you jump in only to watch you not be able to play like two weeks later.
Solace, what times are those? CST? EST? Also, what would you like to play as?

I don't know what my scheduel will be like in the upcoming days. One of three things may be happening- I will be getting a new job, I will be moving out to Columbus for a week or two with my brother, or both.
Assuming things pan out, I have a campaign I have on pause for Thursday nights which I will begin running soon (I hope). Would it be possible (or plausible rather) for me to make a character but put my playability status on "in the air" until the beginning of July ?
Also, would you be running this on both Tuesday and Friday? Or one or the other? Fridays are generally busy for me, and I generally don't scheduel games for said night.. but I can change that for one of your games.
Assuming this is a non-issue, I would most likely play a Changeling Sorceror (Illusionist). However, I am getting the PHB II soon (hopefully) so I might decide to go Beguiler, or even something else should the book inspire me to do so.
EDIT: As far as schedueling problems are concerned the only issue for work would be my scheduel, if I were schedueled for opening (which would be unlikely due to transportation issues) As far as moving to Columbus.. that would be for a week or two at most. So hopefully that will not be an issue..

Muddy, I read that over and it didn't make a whole lot of sense, but I'll do it again when I've been awake for longer than 10 minutes.
We'd only play once a week. Also, if you were to play, a Changeling Beguiler would be a really good combination.

I wrote that when I woke up, so my thoughts might not have been completely together. I will reread it when I am not being rushed offline and try to better explain myself.
On a side note, I just got the PHB II so I can play a Beguiler, or possibly even one of the other classes.

I somehow failed to even read that. What are your times in? EST? Maybe you and Solace will match up on Tuesdays... The only problem being I already have a prior arrangement on Tuesdays at that particular time.
Regardless, what interests you?

Ignore all that noise about my campaign being on hold and exactly what I will be doing. I don't quite know what I was thinking at the time of writing that.. again, right after I woke up..
The important thing is that I don't know what my scheduel will be until July. That should not pose any problems as the game will be held later on in the day. I dont know off the top of my head, CST is GMT -what?
In the event that this is not a problem (or I do get a definite scheduel in the upcoming days) I would like to either play a Changeling Beguiler / Sorc (I need to reveiw the Beguiler's spell list once more before determining) or Dragon Shaman for support.
To break down the two concepts a little more.. I would like to play a spellcaster sort with a blend of Illusion and Enchantment spells (focusing moreso on Illusion spells) or a Dragon Shaman with Energy Shield, Vigor, and Senses aura (to be effiecient in all phases of combat- prior, during, and post)

holy cow i haven't seen a thread this popular in a long time!!
That's a good thing :-)
I'd prefer to be a cleric, but it seems that we have no tanks, so if necessary (and arch also wants to be a spellcaster) i can be a fighter/barb type
EDIT:
Class: Cleric (Divine)
Race: Human/Undecided/Whatever is left
EDIT#2:
That's my preferred class/race combo, i'm willing to take whatever slots need to be filled i feel strong about roleplaying nearly any type of race/class
Also, i'm EST (GMT -5)

Having skimmed through the PHBII in its entirety, I was going to switch to Cleric (Sacred Healer).
However, if Solace wishes to play Cleric, I will most likely go Dragon Shaman. I have played many illuionists in the past, and this is a new class to experience.
My Cleric build could also second as a warrior type (in addition to healing) by second to third level so it might be possible to have two clerics in the party, considering I was going to multiclass between Cleric and Fighter.
I will make all three builds (Illusionist included, just in case) so I will be ready for whatever is decided.

Muds, imo, I think Dragon Shaman would be best, cuz Mel kinda has the arcane locked in, and Solace claimed divine first. Not only that, but the Dragon Shaman does kick hearty ass.

Muds as a -race- Dragon Shaman (Support)
Arch as a -race- -class-

Alrighty. Dragon Shaman it is.
I have a friend interested in playing. He just so happens to want to play a Beguiler. I am linking him to the thread now.
EDIT: Said friend beat me to the punch. Also, since I am playing a Dragon Shaman, could I possibly use the Draconomicon? If you do not have the resource I will copy everything I use word for word.

I'm EST as well.
I'll think about my race, probably human or halfling(ick), maybe changeling

Question for Character Creation,
How shall we detail histories, personalities, should we follow certain alignments, and do we start with standard equipment? (and anything else you'd like to tell us)
-Avi
A Lost Cause (D&D 3.5e) [Currently full]
Histories don't need to be indepth, or even done at all, because I'd be willing to bet anything you wrote would conflict with the background I'm using.
Personalities would be good, at least a basic outline so you know how your character is gonna act, and so you roleplay the same each session (as opposed to being kind and pious one session, and greedy and murderous the second).
Alignments are 'meh'. Be whatever alignment you want. Hell, be evil. If you're evil, though, don't be dumb about it, or else you'll be NPC'd pretty quickly. Good and Neutral are good choices.
Lastly, equipment. I guess I don't know what you even mean. You buy your own equips, with the rules I provided in the initial post. As a side note, I highly recommend buying an Adventurer's Kit.
Adventurer's Kit (15gp):
Backpack, Belt Pouch, Bedroll, Flint & Steel, Hemp Rope (50'), Sunrods (2), Trail Rations (10 days), and a Waterskin
Muds as a -race- Dragon Shaman? (Warrior)
Aramil as a Gnome Beguiler (Expert)
Solace as a Human Cleric (Divine)
Arch as a -race- Duskblade? (Arcane)
Mel as a Warforged Artificer (Support)
EDIT: Character sheets, after they're filled out on my own character sheet, should be given to me over an IM program OR sent to the only email I check on a semi regular basis, ericworks (at) charter (dot) net. the duskblade(this is the short version) is basicalyl what hex blade wishes it was.
it has a d8 for hit dice, full bab, arcane casting from level 1 from an interesting(read excellent) spell list of up to 5th level. can cast in armor and with shields, gets decent spell/day and is int based spontanous casting. gets to cast a certiain number of spells/day as swift actions and can channel touch spells through melee attacks. spells are rays, touch spells, and buffing mostly

Yeah the duskblade is a sweet class. if you hadn't already taken the arcane part of the group I would have picked it.
EDIT: I noticed an error in your character sheet. you have Use magical device based off intelligence when it is a charisma based skill.
A Lost Cause (D&D 3.5e) [Currently full]
Aha! I did not see that in the first post, I understand now.
I'd like to state for the record in case anybody cares, I'm making a Chaotic Good Cleric
One more question, Got a pantheon in mind?
-Avi
A Lost Cause (D&D 3.5e) [Currently full]
Not an error. A feature! A correction to a flawed system!
UMD, in my personal opinion, should be Intelligence-based as opposed to Charisma-based. Why?
When you try to use a magical item when you don't meet the prerequisites, you don't 'convince' or 'trick' the item into working for you; you simply KNOW how to use it! Knowing how to use something is Int-based.
With that having been said, I allow either. If it benefits you more to use Charisma with UMD, go right ahead.
A similar argument can be made with Intimidate (and Str), but that's only on a case-by-case situation. Ex? A dude just killed all of your friends, and then shouts to you "You're next!". Guess what? He's applying Str to that Intimidate check.
EDIT: Use the standard one available in the PHB, Solace. The town actually has a temple to Pelor, but you're not required to be a cleric thereof.

I added a map of the starting area, Stone's Glenn, to the initial post on this thread. Expect a introduction sometime tonight/tomorrow.

Hah, I actually used the map editor for Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic (albiet, with tons of mods applied to the map editor to get to use a lot of special objects). Including the time it took me to join the screenshots of the map, and add the markers and stuff in Photoshop, it took about 2 hours to make, which I don't think is too bad.
Oh, and I edited the main post again with a small bit of background information.

I am fairly sure we will be playing Tuesdays after 7 PM EST. I could try to make it at 6 EST, but it would be pushing it.

I'm waiting for Muds to get his character chosen (race/class) and then I'll be added more to the intro.
And, thanks. :P I wish I wasn't 11% of the total posts, though. That's the part that saddens me.
EDIT: The time is most likely gonna be on Tuesdays.

No times are set in stone yet. It's looking like we'll be starting late-ish, as there's a game I'm involved in that runs on Tuesdays as well.

I'd say the latest we'd play is midnight EST. Is that gonna be a problem?

We can always go later, but midnight is the plan.
Also, I've received one compeleted character. If we can get all 5 completed and turned in by Tuesday, we could start.
...That'd be nice.

well, these are my plans for the weekend, made for me by my mother. I get home from work early (which i just found out from my boss) because for some reason they feel nice to let us go (and take away two hours worth of pay from me), then i get to pack and go to philadelphia for a wedding and don't come back until monday afternoon. Then on monday afternoon when i'm back i have to fix one air conditioning duct in my attic, add another duct, and set up an entire ducting system for the bathroom exhaust.
so.....can i get a one day extension? :x
i'll try to do some of it today, and i'll upload to my e-mail account, and if i can get internet access in philly, i'll finish it up over the weekend
