I think the world is going to end. In 5 hrs and 8 minutes... ALL players said they could make it! I think that might be a first in my OPnPW DMing career, and possibly a first on OPnPW... Five players in five hours. Just crazy.

Not only that, but now we can actually use OPnPW! Yay!

Yeah, and we have that actually somewhat decent web-based proggie if Arch's net decides to be a whore.
OPnPW will be the primary, though.

i originally wanted to join this since it's shadowrun, but when i thought about it i decided even if you guys let me in my work schedule would be too horrible to allow me to in good conciense play ( not to mention my likelihood to drop out of the game ) so could you guys post cliffnotes... or send me logs or something? i really want to follow the progress of this game.

Nice. Yeah, all players responding (especially so quickly) doesn't happen often... :P
Clay. Here's the cliffnotes: We rock. So bloody hard ;). Though that might just be my opinion. Your milage may vary... heh
Seriously though, if no one else will I guess I can take logs from OPnPW and post them to my website. I suppose. If you really want. Maybe :P
Nah, I got you covered and can have comprehensive logs if you want, and can make them HTML so you can see the session in it's glorious... erm... glory. Except last session.
Cliff notes from last session:
Group got together, said hey (all of them (I think) knew each other in passing), met the Johnson, had a VR glitch during the meeting, have to find a girl in a high security prep school. My character (Rose) hacked the firewall in approximately six seconds, got inside, toasted a couple of n00bz that tried to trace her, until the system shut down.
We then tried to converse with the people inside, who were (unsurprisingly) apprently having network problems. The magie (Mel?) used a force 5 persuade on the poor guy. And failed.
When we last left the magie and the face inside the building, they just got out with a hardcopy cataloge page that had a pic of a monogramed bullet, the phrase 'Give them a bullet with their name on it!', and a note that said to stick to our own business.
Sound about right all?

Shadowrun (4th Edition) Scheduling and Recap
Ok. Let me give my verison of the notes on last session.
The Johnson contacted one of the group, who then contacted each of us. The driver picked us up, and we went to the meeting place. VMI I believe it was called. It is a high security meeting place, which is quite expensive.
At the meeting we met the Johnson, who was using a well known persona to the gamers. She glitched quite badly, causes a few bouts of dizziness and nausea for those of us not used to VR. After that, she told us of the job; the party is to locate one Fayette Myers. She went to school in a well protected campus, where she disappeared. Then the party agreed to much less of a wage then they should have.
Anyway, the group decided to start looking for the girl at her school. While the hacker broke into the system, the Ork bruiser and the Mage went inside to see what information we could gather. The bruiser seemed to be making some headway, when the head of security showed up. The mage thought it was prudent to try to convince him with magical means, failing--horribly. The bruiser, who goes by the name Hart, realized this, and thought it prudent to leave. On the way across the parking lot, a shadowy Ork slid a piece of paper into the mage's hand and walked off. The paper was a receipt for a monogrammed bullet with the initials 'T.S.' on it. There was some other text, which said, " "Give him a bullet with his name on it!" There was also handwriting on the paper, "Mind your own business."
Also, the hacker failed.
This was the end of the session.
I'm fairly sure this is more accurate, especially about the note. I took special interest in that.

Hey, what lvl are all of your characters, I am interested in joining. Also, what time is it on the east coast? I am not sure what CST stands for, is it West Coast time?

shadowrun isn't like dnd, where you gain levels. there are no levels. instead, you gain karma (think xp, just smaller quantities), and you 'cash' it in to improve attributes or skills etc.

Any online books? or maybe a forum post that explains it?
And so help me, if it is anything like the "Toon" pen and paper game (Few will know what I mean, and for a good reason, it sucked) then I am out.

Online Books: No. SRD: no.
Toon game: Well, fitting in with my namesake, yes I do know what you are talking about. I'm amazed someone else does actually. It lasted, what, a year?!
Yeah, there aren't any levels, it's more like WW's WoD series, in which you gain bonus points at the end of sessions and then can spend them to upgrade your abilities down the road.
Shadowrun (I'm not sure if Saber is even wanting someone else, but just for reference) is a Sci-Fi, 'near future' game (set in 2070) that is with a d6 dice pool system.
Unfotunately, no, there are no online sources that you can (legally) use to gain information about the game, as none of it was released to the masses like that. Any you do find are in violation of copyright infringement. The OGL did not start until DnD 3.0/3.5 (although before there were small, less known games (such as Insylum) that had free downloadable PDF's and rulesets. Also, 2nd edition Tri-Stat from Gaurdians of Order fit into this catergory)

*sniffs* the hacker failed? She broke open the firewall and got into the system long enough to tell the girl was paid up until the next year >.>.
Besides, you'd fail too if all someone had to do to get you out was push a damn button! So there! :P

Shadowrun (4th Edition) Scheduling and Recap
Eh, to each their own. Pesonally I like them more than whatever in the world D20 uses. Makes it much nicer. Always fail on a 1? So a level 20 fighter ultra specc'd in his weapon has a 5% chance to miss the commoner with no training? Sorry... I don't buy it. That's just me, dice pools are much nicer when it comes to abilities and skills.
And in SR you can die. Quite quickly. It's a very gritty game (which automatically turns off most people from it). You can be '20th level' (for all that means in the game anyway) and get killed by a lucky three or six round burst.
fuck that, i am a pretty princess and none of you jerks can tell me otherwise
Shadowrun (4th Edition) Scheduling and Recap
Exactly, so can you in D&D.
Plus, the "Make a 1 you automaticly miss" makes sence, but only in certain situations, they modified the system to beter encumpas the challenge.
If you are going against another organism, you both roll d20 to do something (In some cases only one does ie in combat. Although some people choose to use an "alternative" combat, where instead of adding protection to a base of 10AC, you roll the D20, and use that as a base, thus makeing the battle more random, and eliminateing the "Always miss at 1" rule to ballence things out) some examples are: Person uses hide, monster uses spot. Monster moves silently, person checks for listen. etc...
As for combat. The chances of you doing NORMAL damage at any level is 90% (Crit and Crit-fail) That means 9/10 attacks you do will hit. At high levels, you just 1 hit ko everything (Because of all your +58 bonuses, makeing a roll of 2 worth 60) and you have a 1/20 chance of extreme over kill (Not only killing the thing in one hit, but vaporizing him into an extreme case of cosmic dust)
Now, you are complaining about "Missing" your target 5% of the time?
Now to counter that, people who are that high levels often become "Imortals" Few have done it, my naughbor in CA has (Level 601/600 fighter/magic-user) Once you become an imortal, you use an entirely different set of rules, so once you become a god, esentialy the "1 is a critical miss" role doesn't aply.
But for the rest, there is always a chance of failure no matter what, because you are MORTAL.
Let's take the best player at SSBM (Super Smash Brothers Melee), he can hit and player easy with his kicks and punches and junk, even if you evade, he usualy follows up with another attack to hit you right after. But SOMETIMES the other person might do something unexpected, like use thier Up-B attack to launch into the air. In that case, they reacted first and missed the attack. The hit ratio of the BEST player in the world is only about 91.something% (From one of the tournaments he was in about a year ago.) That evens out to about him hitting osmeone about 95% of the time. He still won every match, but he also missed a few kicks here and there.
Just because you miss your attacks sometimes, doesn't mean you loose the battle.
Also, monsters will have AC's of 75 when you are high enough levels to get +58 to attack. making a minimum to hit 18, so I don't think you would care much if you got a 0 or a 17. Also, they have natural 20 always hit and always a critical hit (Unless the weapon has no critical, which is even rarer than getting 5 crits in a row)
Plus, once you get a vorpal weapon, you are 2 steps away from imortality, and I am pretty sure you are too busy fighting off lesser gods to worry about "Ohh, I missed that lizard man with my sword that instantly kills, looks liek I have to go 1 more combat round to slay him automaticly with my +55 vorpal great sword" And trust me... that won't tickle....

This isn't the place to be discussing these things ;)
If you really want to take it up with me, my contact information is not that hard to get a hold of (in fact there are a string of buttons underneath my posts that list them). However, rest assured I have played and replayed D20, D6, D10, DD6, Freeform, Diceless, et all so many times, I am most throughly versed in the in's and out's of each system. Hence the user id.
I am, likewise, PM'ing you my response, as there is no need to block up this thread for a debate.

Besides the die curve (if that is what people nowadays call it) it is a pretty successful system, I just think you should use other die every now and then. Besides that, if anyone doesn't mind teaching me, I would like to give it a try.
[FYI about toon]
Toon is a game that uses a d6 pool. It is esentialy like any other tbale top RPG, but you use cartoon characters. Maybe if you are 4-8 years old this would be good for you, because you can't die, no matter what. Also, they didn't develop it too much, it is VERY small. They also tick me off when they refer to the DM as the "Director".... +Drop Kicks Paperback(The only version ever printed) copy of "Toon"... but picks it back up and hugs it due to the cute picture of a bunny on the front+

Again, contact me via IM and I can get you situated in the in's and out's of SR D6. I'm not sure if the GM (Saber) is letting anyone else in however. That's his call to make, and I'm just the lowly hacker in it :P
That being said however, you will have to pick up a copy of the book(s). We are currently running 4th edition (which is a vast change from 3rd), but you should only need the base core rulebook.

i'm not going to be on my computer tonight. i'll be at my dads. it's a matter of whether or not he has the program installed or not.
oh, and he's on dial-up.
btw, my net getting fixed isn't likely. as far as i can tell, i've only got one possible idea to see if it'll run better, and if that doesn't work, it's not getting fixed til i move out.. see: as soon as i get a job and can afford first/last.

but yes, if i was getting laid, i wouldn't be here. but i don't really see that happening, since i don't know many girls here (back where i grew up - everyone has moved) and i have no car to see those that live a little further away. and the ones i do know are.. not my type.
