Okay, I'm just going to post a general idea. Then we can discuss if there is a bit of itnerest.
Basic Idea:
Collective group of people run a revolving combat rpg.
Goal:
To provide a fun combat orientated pickup style game that players can join and leave as they please.
Synopsis of general working system:
Several DMs colloborate, each week of the administrators..
One Designs Dungeon
One Runs Game
Another assists,
And it rotates, the dungeons and levels would be VERY strict in terms of treasures and regulations, hence allowing characters to rotate freely.

I just now read this...never showed up on my screen before or I overlooked it. I'd be willing to be an assistant, run the monsters intelligently and all that (well...hopefully). Anyways, it seems like the tourney craze has replaced the urge to do dungeon crawling at least for the time being.

that sounds like a cool idea, but like you said tux, how does it work... its almost like a 24/7 game going on. while that is all well and damn awsome, there arent many DMs that keep up DM steam THAT long. I guess the DMs will have to be in different time zones, but you said you had it figured out... so please do explain.

Well the general principle as I stated is that if we maintain a strict coherence to the SRD then any DM can run the game at any time. Now these games aren't 24/7, they're pickup games, the thing is: There can be twenty players, and 5 dms, if all the DM's use standardized treasures, xp, etc, then all twenty players can come and go as they please with no worries really. I'm not sure how to eleborate on it more, but thats the concept I suppose.

Ok since Tux have other high priority things to do, I just wanted to help out with this ..and I want to be able to log in and play/dm pick up games.
I have talked it over with him, and this is what it basically comes to.

Main Concept: Basically this is what we used to call pick-up games, although this has been slightly adjusted to make pick up games more frequent and character creation for these pick up games more easier.
The System: Only 3.0e at this time. Only one system will be used for character creation, so that the characters can be interchangeable. Pick up games usually only last one session, and that is why interchangeability is a benefit. Not everyone likes to make characters everyday, and because you don’t have to create a character every time before a pick up game, the games can be started up very quickly.
(Note about the rules: Only 3.0 at this time, because not everyone here is quite comfortable yet with the 3.5e system, and besides everyone knows 3.0 in this community (or so it seems) )
The DM and Players: Just post in this thread saying that you want to dm, or play or both. The DM List will contain all dm’s name, who are willing to start up pick up games. So whenever you log in, players will know that you might be available to ask for a pick up game. Same with the players, if someone feels like Dming they will know what players might be interested.
Duties of the Players: Start signing up as soon as you can. It is recommended that you create at least 3 lvl 1 characters and separate them from your other Cses just for pick up games.
Duties of the DMs: Start signing up as soon as you can. It is recommended that you look through the monster manual and start readying some EL 1 encounters, and maybe write down some pick up game idea somewhere, so that you can use them whenever you start up a pick up game.
Other Notes: If you are running a campaign or playing in a campaign, please do prioritize those over pick up games. It would be just rude if someone doesn’t DM or play in a campaign because of a pick up game. This is not mandatory either, if players doesn't feel like playing or dm doesn't feel like dming, they don't have to.

I can DM if we are doing small adventures or combats, though much more than that I tend to become unmotivated and skrew the players over with some immature-supid thing... such as a wizards house where litterally everything is animated... ahem, yes, I will DM small quests or combats if you need me to. Also, I would like to play.. so put me down for both...

I will support this idea since it will help to get those new on opnpw in a game quite quick and therefore they might stay at least a little longer.

Alright neat, yeah lets start this.
For the players, here's few things that i am hoping all DM's will agree to. This way all players will be able to follow the same rules to create their characters for all pick up games.
Ability Scores: 32 points standard point buy system.
For those who have DMG just look at pg 20, for more explanation on standard point buy system, for those who don't here's how you do it.

Example- Ok, Lets say that I am creating a fighter. I will put a 17 in strength, which if i look up the chart will cost me 13 points, leaving me with 19. I will bring up the constitution to 13, using up 5 more points and leaving me with 14. I will use 6 more points to bring up my dexterity to 14, and that will leave me with 8 points. I will bring up intelligent to 12 using four points, and charisma and wisdom to 10, using two points on each.
So
Str- 17 (13 points used)
Dex- 14 (6 points used)
Cons- 13 (5 points used)
Int - 12 (4 points used)
Wis- 10 (2 points used)
Cha- 10 (2 points used)
Total Points Used- 13+6+5+4+2+2= 32
HP: Just write down your hp.
Average Starting Gold (source: page 95 of PHB):
Barbarian- 4d4 x 10 = {(4+16)/2} x 10 = (20/2) x 10 = 100 gp
Bard- 4d4 x 10= 100 gp. (see barbarian for calculation)
cleric - 5d4 x 10 = {(5+20)/2) } x 10= (25/2) x 10 = 12.5 x10= 125 gp
Druid - 2d4 x 10 = {(2+8 )/2} x10 = (10/2) x 10 = 5 x 10 = 50 gp
Fighter - 6d4 x 10 = {(6+24)/2} x 10 = (30/2) x 10 = 15 x 10= 150gp
Monk- 5d4= (5+20)/2 = 12.5 gp = 12 gp 5 sp.
Paladin - 6d4 x 10= 150 gp (see fighter for calculation)
Ranger - 6d4 x 10 = 150 gp (see fighter for calculation)
Rogue -5d4 x 10= 125 gp (see cleric for calculation)
Sorcerer - 3d4 x 10 = {(3+12) /2 } x 10 = (15/2) x 10= 7.5 x 10= 75gp
wizard - 3d4 x 10= 75 gp (see sorcerer for calculation)
(note: none of this rolls have to be in front of Dms, because that would slow down the start)
Also let's do a pick up game count, whenever you hold one, just post, and it will be updated.

I dont have a MM, so if someone could tell me where to find / send to me the 3.0e MM SRD I would appriciate it.. otherwise.. would anyone mind if I used monsters from 3.5e? Shouldnt matter, its interchangable and the mechanics the players use wont be affected any...

What page is that in? I also wanted the rolling element removed from the character creation, but couldn't find any average starting gold in phb or dmg.

cleric, rogue # 125gp
babarian, bard # 100gp
sorcerer, wizard # 75gp
druid # 50gp
monk # 12gp 5sp

Let's continue the flow and have pick up games once in a while from now on, or whenever couple of willing players and a dm is on.
If a new players or user logs in, try to incorporate him/her into your games, that way this community might gain some growth as well.
