Nicholas's Ideas #2

--Character Sheet--
A player can save .dnd files and load them up in opnpw. That way a character can have multiple characters. Then, all a DM has to do is right click the person's name, click "View Character" and his character sheet will pop-up.

I bet you people already thought of that, but there was another idea I had.

Multiple character sheet formats.

I like to doenload and use a "Paladin" character sheet when a player is a paladin, and a rogue character sheet when a player is a rogue. For the "Class" part, you should have a drop-down list of all the 3e classes, and when the class is selected, it loads a differant format of the character sheet. Now, instead of makeing an "Other" option where you can choose another class name, and just use the default one (Which you could do too I guess) you could also do something like the "Skin Editor" and let players choose the text and location of things and junk like they are makeing their boxes to put stuff. They can drag and drop the HP box and junk. That way you can make like "Custom" character sheets based on how you like to look at it or to best reflect the class that you are.

Also, if character sheets are added, you should be able to add a player's HP next to his name (Like the %T to show time and junk) while the DM would have no HP, so nothing would be there (Maybe just DM where his HP would go for other players) That way a DM could quickly see which player has how much HP and junk without having 50 char cheets open and asking and junk.

You could also make a "Character Sheet Organizer" for the DM, which is basicly a small window with a bunch of tabs at the top displaying each player's name, when you click it, it brings up a quick summery of the character. HP, AC, saves, equiped items, and prepared spells. Then, the DM can modify any of those things, which would automaticly modify the player's character sheet. The player would also have a check box on his char sheet that is "Allow DM to change" set to true for default, that way a player can uncheck it to avoid a n00b going around swipeing char sheets clean for no reason but to be annoying. Also, you would of had your char sheet saved, so even if that does happen, just don't save the sheet and re-load it. There could also be little buttons or something to add items or remove them or something. I don't know how you plan to make character sheets but here is an EXTREMLY good example (Uses Java I THINK, although it does have some signs of C++ usage) http://www.dndadventure.com/ftp/35e_character_sheet_pc.zip

This is how a char sheet should look like for the player, just make it a LOT more user friendly and junk (After 10 secs with it, you will understand what I mean, just try filling it out with a new char)

That is esentialy my idea.

Feel free to ask me to clarify or go into detail about parts, or ask questions.

I would also apreciate it if brad or anyone with ties to him would tell me what he is planning with character sheets and (if you read idea #1) if he is planning on anything REMOTELY simular to the "Board" system (AKA "Counter" or "Marker" system as a call it sometimes)

The idea has been around since OPnPW started. It came and went at least once, but I can't remember the reasons for removal. We even had custom character sheet plugins that you could program if you had enough knowledge of VB (which maybe three people did and I think only I tried, so it was removed after a few versions).

I think most people like the CS idea, but it requires seperate programming for each system/game/etc., which is a lot of work for Tux, especially on games he's never played. Maybe it'll be in a future version, but not for a while.

As far as I know, you can make your own character sheets for OPnP. (If you can code them, that is =(

"Don't let history... happen to you."

I was wrong. I just noticed that the plugins are still in the options menu, but noone has bothered working to make one. I was trying to make a plugin one time, but I remember not being able to compile a program as a .dll file, so I was le screwed.
