Vampire: The Masquerade [TEST GAME] Please join!!!
Hello everyone! I have just finshed reading about V:tM, and am ready for a test game. Let me give you some quick info about the game first, trust me, if you are interested in playing, read everything I write, and links are optional (Except for the one to the quick-start guide, you will need that to print out a "starters" character.
This is a d6 engine (I know, my favorite) so the game is NOTHING like D&D or anything to me, it sounds more like "AR" or whatever that futuristic game was called.
For the "Test" game, you will not be leveling up or gaining XP. In this vampire game, you don't have "Levels" but you do put XP into increasing skills and junk. I have not yet read about all this, for it was not included in the quick start guide, but don't fret, future "Real" games will include XP.
The game will be hosted THURSDAY, AUGUST 24TH at 6:00 PM (GMT: -5, east coast time)
Alright, now for the rules of the game.
I advise any and all to read ALL of the quick start guide (27 pages, not bad, won't take more than 2 or 3 hours)
Print out the character sheet at the end of the guide. This is the best sheet I have found as of yet. Feel free to fill in the information as best you can, come to OPNPW 20 mins early (4:40) or PM me (if you are impatient) for questions or if you need help. For possesions, you either may use a gun. Other than that, you may scratch and use basic or advanced abilities. we will not be using traits or anything of the like, just the things on that char cheet at the back of the book.
The link to the quick-start guide (It starts slow, but picks up 1/4-2/5 way through, you can skip up until "Character Creation" on page 7, but I advise against this, for you may find yourself lost in what is happening) http://www.white-wolf.com/Images/CompleteBooks/VampireRevisedQuickstart.pdf
That link and guide is entirly legal, it is uploaded from white-wolf themselves, so don't fret.
If you need a "Quicker" quick start guide, I will try to summerize the game into 2-parts (These 2 parts must be read for the test purpose if nothing else, but for real games, a bit more reading is required)
If you are reading the quick start guide, ignore everything in the quotes.
The game takes place in a modern-day world. The year is 2006, etc etc etc, computers, cell phones, USA, etc...
You have become a vampire by something called the "Embrace" it is either formal or casual depending on the "Sire" or the vampire who made you a vampire. you are his "Childe" or Child, I don't know why they add an "E". The embrace is where they suck all your blood, and I mean ALL your blood (I vant, to suck, yoh bluhd) and give you some of theirs, anywhere between a small meal, and a single drop. Once again, depends on the individual vampire.
The leader of any given city is called a "Prince" all vampires must follow his orders. Every city has a differant prince. The princes can be male or female, and are still called princes (Sorry GF, no princesses in this world) and they have 6 laws essentialy. The main 2 are "Don't let humans know you are a vampire" and "Don't kill another vampire" I am pretty sure there was one about cottage cheese or something, but it has been long lost for ages (^_^).
There are also generations of vampires, the farther away you are form "Caine, the origeonal vampire", the higher generation you are, the higher generation, the weaker you are. Don't think of ways to beat the system, accept the system. You are all essentialy anywhere between 5-13 generation. Depending on who bit you. Anyone who said in the back of their mind "I want to be a 5" is automaticly a 14. Everyone else, is a 4. Since this is a test game, generations won't count, thus making my last 4 sentences pointless ^_^.
Now, on to character creation.
Go to the link above (The one for the quick start guide) and print out the character sheet on the last page (Page 27). Or, make a text document REALLY close to it, if you don't have a printer, hell, use a pencil and lined paper for all I care, just make it look presentable, or else...
Next: You start off with all 10 blood pool boxes checked off! Yay! Full blood! You also start off with no damage! Yay! Don't check off anythin in health!
Now, I supose we should start from the top and work our way down
Player Name: Enter your name
Character Name: Enter your character's name (uhdoy?)
Clan: Select a clan from the quick start guide (Read below)
There are 13 clans in the vampire games, that is 13 classes to choose from! Yay! But for the test, we will only be useing 7... awww.... all of which are explained in the quick start guide! Yay?
read from page 9-15 to select a clan most apropriate to what you want to be.
Now, fill in the "Aptitude, Advantages, and Weakness" as described par the quick-start guide. A simple word (Usualy the first couple words of the advantage and junk) will do, anyone who wants to write the whole damn thing on that tiny line, may do so if they wish +Cough+idiot+Cough+
Now, time for traits. You get 4 scores: 1, 2, 3, 4. That easy. Now assign fill as many bubbles as you want to match the scores, there is also a fifth trait not shown known as "Psychic", I dunno why it isn't there, it just isn't.. You can only use an ability score once (ie, don't put a 4 on all 4, and no 1's on all of theim either (Dee de-de))
For disciplines, read pages 16-19 from "Disciplines" to learn what all the disciplines you aquired form your clan are. You can have all the basic abilites of all 3 disciplines, or have all the basics of 1 discipline and all the basics and advanced of 1 other. int he case where you have advanced disciplines, just put a lil "A" next to the discipline, or strangle a small child from the park while raping him and shouting "MY [insert disipline] DISIPLINE HAS AN ADVANCED RANK" either is assured to cause you to remember you haveing an advanced rank in that discipline.
THAT IS IT! CHARACTER DONE!
Now the die rolling part >_<
All you ever doll are 6 sidded dice.
When you roll for a discipline, it has a dificulty level sometimes, you have to roll higher than that with a 6 sided dice. When doing things like combat, the attacker rolls as many dice as he has dots in physicly and the defender does too, if the attacker has more successes on a dificultiy 4 than the defender has successes on a dificulty 4, the defender has taken damage equal to the attacker's physicle trait (Seems unballenced to me, but alright) and if the defender wins, he takes no damage. A turn is about 3 seconds long, a scene is the same as an encounter essentialy, and a story is the same as a session. To shoot a gun, it is the same thing as melee damage, only over a long range.
Basicly when doing any skill check, you roll the number of d6 equal to the points you have in a related ability against the dificulty of the thing you want to do, which I will decide the dificuly rateing.
When you are "Frenzied" you have a 50% chance to attack a victom for food or run away from the sunlight and junk, you do not feel pain when frenzied.
Also, the more damage you take, the more penalties you take on your die rolls. -1 at modeate, -2 at serius, and -5 at critical (Even further unballences the system of combat, but alright, if it works...)
One more thing! It takes 1 check away from your blood pool to use basic disciplines, and 2 to use advanced ones, unless specificly stated otherwise by the skill (Such as things like fortitude)
To increase your bloodpool, you need to suck the blood of a human, humans can heal up to 10 boxes, but they start dieing at 5, and most clans don't like killing humans, you also need to keep a firm grasp of them long enough to suck them dry. You also loose 1 box every day, that 1 is basicly how much it cost just to keep you alive. If your pool goes dry, you might go into a frenzy. When you are in Topor, you are basicly incompacitated, and can't move or anything.
Any other things (Like grappleing, or dodgeing, and initiative) can be learned by clicking the link and reading about them. Else, I will explain them to you when we play the game. Grabbing is exactly the same as attacking pretty much, and you need to do it to suck blood, maintaining the grab is another thing entirely.
That is it. If you have read the quick-start(Theirs, not mine, well, I suposse you can read mine too if you want, reading mine doesn't automaticly disqualify you, but reading theirs automaticly qualfies you), and are overwhelmingly ready to test out the game. PM me, I might be able to do a little solo session before the official "Test". Please Reply to this post if you are willing to play, and include your clan and choses disciplines (All 3 basic, or 1 basic 1 advanced, whichever you chose, make sure to tell me which one is advanced if you chose the later)
Nicholas... OUT!

How about we move it a day sooner, to thursday? 2 days is more than ehough to read the quick-start guide. Would you guys be willing to do thursday at 6?
As for character restrictions. You can use any of the 7 clans in the quick-start guide and those only. No custom clans.
That is about it. You have the choice of a handgun (10 bullets per magazine), a knife, or fists. I think that would keep truee to urban lving. In the real game, There will be more you can do (Including a choice of all 13 clans and you will get XP)

Thursday I (might) have a game. Depending on if it runs or not. Of course Friday I'm the DM. And pretty much every other night I have a game :P
Seven clans seven clans. Ventrue, Brujah, or... *thinks* one of those two most likely.
Are we using the new rules, or the old rules? heh

The rules on the quick-start guide, the old rules, not the new ones that use d10, the ones that use d6
Also, if anyone knows where a quick XP guide for the full version or could write me up a quick explination of it, that would be much apreciated, and I can begin hosting games even sooner.

*pokes* the old ones use d10 too :P
There were few differences between the two (the old edition having appearance as a major attribute for example). My preference is on the older version, as I haven't played the newer one all that much.
I looked at the guide, and it's the same one I have for oWoD, so...

Ohh, you mean the OLD one, I ment the origeonal old one, you are refering to the revised old one.
Yeah, we will first play the unrevised old one, then official games will be played with the revised old rules, since those I am liking the most, I will update my tag to show my progress towards official games.

Yeah. The book that you linked to was for the revised oWoD.
I had kinda assumed that was what you meant >.>. I don't know too many people that play unrevised old... At all. I think I played it once...
There's a newer WoD out, which is what's used for Vampire: The Requiem and the like.

ALRIGHT!
Let's re-establish some rules to apease the masses:
-We will be useing d10 as aposed to d6
-You will all be of 5-13th generation
-There WILL be experience
-The characters you make are no longer test characters
-Some actions MAY be limmited (ie, ones I havn't read yet... I can't think of any as of now though, we will worry about it when we come up to it, and I will do as best I can to overcome it.)
-Our game will be based off of the REVISED V:tM
-ANY of the 13 (Or was it 16) Clans are allowed, even clanless are allowed, but make sure you know the specific rules for them (I advise against it for new players, but I will allow it)
The link to the revised version is:

The character sheet list is on this post (by me):
http://www.opnpw.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=861
Character creation starts on page 104.

MWAHAHA!
Ok. My character is more or less ready, concept-wise. Will be fully done... erm... soon.
Is there a way to reach you other than the board/PM? If so, might I ask for that information? Have some things I want to discuss concerning this.

My AIM is halfofastaple, I will be online all day tomarow. You can reach me there before the game to discuss things.
If the dice you roll in your book is d10, it is revised, if not, it isn't. If it isn't, then you can read the revised book in the link in the previous post by yours truly.
