My RP group has started playing the d20 version of Call of Cthulhu more than anything (including DnD) so I decided to take a quick poll of OPnPW to see if anyone else has played it/wants to play on OPnPW/is willing to learn. I could probably run games from my campaign as pick up games if there is enough demand for it.

I've played it, and I feel I worse off for it.

If you wish to go through a character+ a session, then this is for you. Just remember, don't get too attached to any one character. They're nigh guaranteed to die within the first session, if not the first five minutes of said first session. Oh, and the buying rules they have suck.

Just my 2 min analysis. Feel free to IM me if you disagree or want more info.

Oh, god... Hahaha, I just remembered. My first game... All the characters died in the first session, although I think we did what we were supposed to... We killed the occultist (who was fucking invulnverable, I swear to you! I was a cop and shot the shit outta this guy, and NOTHING! Anyways...) by running two cars head-on into each other, with him sandwiched in the center. The cars blew up and we all died-ed. My idea. :D Brought a cool image to my mind afterwards too...

~*~ Cop car flying headlong into a full frontal collision, lights and sirens going... SMASH!!! The sirens still going, starting to weaken out... When... BOOM! ~*~

I know, it's great.

The thing to remember is that CoC is a horror RPG, and therefore the mortality rate is much higher. Hehe, low armor class+low HP+sanity checks+nearly unkillable monsters = FUN!

I'll announce any games we may have via this thread. Before then, however, I reccommend you get the rules (either suck it up and buy them, or find a PDF) or at least a character sheet (rpgsheets.com has a sheet for every roleplaying game immaginable).

And yes, what Saber says is true, but CoC is a lot less combat-oriented, and relies more on survival and investigation, not heroism and combat.

Hey Crow I have a question...why don't you show up to Opnp and ask around? You've posted this but we don't see you online soo...its kinda hard to talk to you, and it helps to show the interest that you actually want to run it :)

When I am ready to start playing, I'll start a thread on the misc. board. In the meantime, if you need help creating a character or have any other questions, see me when I am online, or AIM me (hobodave8985).

I would love to learn to play if I can get my hands on a PDF, if anyone has/knows where to get it, poin me in that direction (It just about completetly dissapeared of the net.. or so it seems..) If not Ill have to wait to buy the book, if it is worth it... But I could still make a charrie and join in, horror settings are my new favorite...

There is only one surefire way to survive in a CoC game, and one possible way.

The possible way is to stay in the back of the party with your eyes closed and burn every book you come across.

The surefire way is to not play at all.

Don't even think about trying to develop a character, they just don't last long enough.

Well, I'm back from my hybernation, and I'm ready to play. Look for me on OPnPW and we'll see about making characters. I'll be ready to run a game as soon as we have enough players. I'll probably adapt my campaign games to single adventures. Look for me somewhere between 8:00PM and 1:00 AM, I'll try to be on most nights.

And the probable way to live in CofC is not to hide behind everyone else, because when that Mi-go sneaks up on your group of investigators, you've just defaulted yourself to the front lines, and with a free hit against you, no less. No, the probable way to survive is to avoid putting your group of investigators in a compromising situation, and the best way to do that is to know your enemy. That's right, you have to research, Research, RESEARCH. And I may let dead characters rejoin the subsequent games, so you don't have to make a million characters.

I've never played... I'd be willing to learn though, this sounds fun.

Unfortunately, if you haven't been able to tell yet, I've been really busy with college stuff, and therefore I'm going to have to cancel CoC until further notice.

Is CoC set in a modern era, medival era or turn of a century/industrial revolution era?

DM . . .when the coach is ambushed by goblins!
Billy RAWR!!! SMASH!!!
Cian I'll charge in and attack!
Me I'll cast bless on the party!
Aoife I'll hide under the coach =(
