Dreams and Sleep

so wait the dreamers only real skill would be to fall asleep? i mean that sounds good if you were a insomniac but quite useless in battle if you catch my drift...... please expund upon your idea and mayhaps we can help you with this dilly of a pickle

With a class who has abilties that must be used in sleep, sleep should be defined so it's not abused. ("After I cross the trap room I fall asleep until everyone's across." etc.)

Am I the only one who sees the fundemental flaw in basing everything on rendering a character unconsious? [i]Exciting![/i]

perhaps if we were to give this "dreamer" class a few extra's? say on a roll of.... hmm, d90 or above the dreamer acts as a fighter of double his level half the time on the day after his dreams due to being intensely in tune with an epic warrior of legend? ok that's a bit powerful, lets say on a roll of 97-100 he gets that, and assign other classes as well, with level dependents, and give the dreamer a chance at prophetic dreams, with a few little extra's there as well, meaning at high levels his dreams.... come true. the npc falls in love with raggar the 18th level warrior, kleis the 17th level dreamer looks on jealously, and ends up in a confrontation with raggar during which raggar catches a dagger to the ribs but also returns to kleis with a dagger to the lung, and kleis gets the dramatic death sequence with his secret love's, the level 9 and 10 druid and mage, respectively?

yeah i rambled, just a few little tidbits of legend there.

(btw at least 70% of the time the dreamer will SUCK, having a d4 hp and no magic other than his dreamings, meaning the times he ends up with the powers of a double level mage, or fighter, or cleric, will make him legendary in contrast to his utter uselessness in battles the other 7 days out of the 10. now you see my intent?)

i have more idea's that was just the one that so TOTALLY knocked me down, imagine kleis the dreamer trying his damndest to explain to the woman he loves, who only speaks to him because he OBLITERATED a fighter and a mage of equal levels to him and she's impressed with his power in magic and his physical prowess, "honey, i couldn't beat YOU up right now, lets see about tommorrow, then i'll beat the shit out of these rapist asswipes, k?"

he'd be so majorly defined for rping potential... i mean damn, his abilities would be fluid, always changing, never static. ya know? today i simply cast levitate, tommorrow i'll have to climb.

Some of Claymored's ideas arent the best in the world, no offense to you Claymored, and are often based purely around achieving power. However, there are times when he comes up with extremely good ideas.

The thought of what he proposed, sounds good to me, but I would temper it a bit more than he suggests Damion. I have nothing against the idea, but it just needs a little bit more revision before its enacted.

the dreamer concept outlined above is a very rough concept, i went over it in detail with damion last night, we both agreed it was very cool. basically the same thing as above except with limitations imposed, plus we did some revision of the concept to make it more apparent the type of roleplaying situation the dreamer would be most suited to.

Okay... Your not going to be more specific with us? Cmon, we are all interested in knowing whats going to happen to the dreamer. However, if you want to keep your secrets, thats fine too. :cry:

Damion, I would like to see a revised version of the dreamer, if you get the chance to post one after you make certain said changes. Maybe we can come up with a few more ideas, or just admit that the dreamer is perfect. Whichever works best.

Definitely. As of yet, I can tell you that it will no longer be a prestige class, as it'll be changed to core.

Just a little idea... mainly for balance... Along with Clay's idea, when you roll the d%, add a modifier, start it at -20, then increase it based on the hours you have spent asleep... Then compare it to a table, with several different abilities with assigned numbers (like... 0-1 +1 init, 2-6, +2 Hide, ... , 96-99 BAB = to your level, 100 All HD are increased by one dice level (max d12)) then anything you roll and less than what you roll will be the abilities you receive...( you roll a 20, -12 modifier, you have an 8, giving you lets say +1 init, +2 to hide, and +2 to move silently)
