Why don't we run a 24 Hour RPG competition? Not really much more I could say on the matter. Read the website, if you are interested, post a time when you would be available, and lets see if we can get one started.

24 Hour RPG

i'm in. anytime.

24 Hour RPG

Thats one. Anybody else?

Well two I guess, but I will not be available for another two weeks probably. I have a lot happening between work and my days off.

I'm not sure that I completely understand the idea. If we did this, would it be everyone on their own or would there be teams? Is there a "winner"?

24 Hour RPG

We each make our own, as far as I can tell. I suppose we could just completely ignore said rules and run our own version where we each contribute and within 24 hours create a potentially superior game. Or we could just play by the rules and submit the products to 24hourrpg.com. Or we could do both.

Winner? Damn, I am beginning to wonder if you read the website at all. Everyone is a winner, the prize is self gratification. Its kind of like masturbating, except with energy drinks and aderol rather than a sore forearm.

I live close-ish to Jersey. Not that I am much up for road trips, I don't even travel into town that often. Somewhat of an anxioty about driving in heavy traffic. Why won't you participate online?

Well, I skimmed the website and went to the "This Year's 24 Hour Game thread" link... which happens to be from 2005, so, since they're obviously not running it, I figured that you might have a new Muddy2k7 competition with different rules.

24 Hour RPG

Hmm. That thought did occur to me as well, but I simply dismissed it without much consideration. Prehaps we could come up with our own rules, but first we shall see who is interested. I was thinking a team effort might be pretty cool, but only as pairs. Why not just everybody? Well we could have too many ideas floating around and too many arguments about how this should be more like that and less progress be made. But first we need to see who is interested. Prehaps we could turn this into a yearly event for OPnPW. Choose a theme of some sort, create your system and setting, then run the game amongst all participants and others interested in playing. Everybody can then judge the games they play and choose the one they like best.

So, not many people are interested? I suppose I should wait a bit for currently inactive members to post, if they are going to. But still, three people would be enough for a first event.. hopefully more will be interested though, because I wanted to make this a reoccuring thing.

24 Hour RPG

I will come up with some general rules for OPnPW's first annual 24 hour RPG contest. I think most importantly is that I wish to make this a week long event. Week long as in you can choose any 24 hour block within the designated week. Hell, choose multiple blocks, so long as you only work on one project per 24 hour block. This is to optimize availability, thus optimizing participation.

I am also thinking that all participants should create a session to run for the other participants. Just to get a taste of how well our babies work and provide constructive criticism.

24 Hour RPG

I am back now. I had been busy for a few days, as I said I would be. But then I also decided to remodel my room, so my computer was down for a few days. But yeah, I am back now. Well, sort of. I will be working the next couple of days, and have been fairly distracted by a decent amount of pain. I will try some rules composed within the next few days.

I am looking forward to this :)

24 Hour RPG

The Rules:
1- The competition will be one week long, during which time any body may participate by choosing one 24 hour block.
2- All creations must be started and completed within the same 24 hour block.
3- Participants may use pre-existing core mechanics for their game, whether it be homebrew or something already published.
4- Everything else must be created from scratch during the 24 hour period (for example, all classes, combat options, equipment, spells, etc)
5- Submissions must be atleast somewhat professional looking with organized data. Extra points if you manage to make a decent looking PDF file out of your project, however this is not necessary (since not everybody will have the full version of Acrobat)
6- There is nothing stoping you from creating more than one project if you have the time, however each project must be worked on only within one 24 hour block.

Things you can't do:
-Use someone elses artwork
-Receive help from anyone else. One person per project.
-Work for more than 24 hours on a single project.

If there are any questions just ask before we begin. The dates have not yet been chosen, so please post when it would be best for you to participate and we will try and work out a week long window for the event to run.

I'll be happy with any date later than Monday. Memorial Day weekend is probably not a good time to overlap with this. Also, from all of this "24 hour block" talk, I'm getting the impression that you're talking about a block of 24 straight hours, not the previous system of any 24 hours over the course of a week. Clarifications, please. kthxbye

24 Hour RPG

I appologize. I never intended to imply that the work time could be broken up over a week (I just assumed everyone knew better from reading the 24hourrpg site)

Participants may choose any one block of 24 hours by choosing their starting time and having their submissions turned in by or before that same time the following day.

24 Hour RPG

I did want to do this this week, but I have come down with a flu, so I didn't post anything. Next week will be no good for me since my days off are all taken up (I am going to go see TOOL! ^-^) Possibly the week after? (June 10 through June 16)

If the 24 hour block is too time constrictive for people, then possibly we could do something about it. I would preffer to do everything in one 24 hour period, since that is how the competition origionally was.. But if that won't work, I know we have some strange ass scheduels across the board..

Let me know.

24 Hour RPG

Hoorah.

Spread the word, lets see how big we can get this.

Do we want a theme for this competition? Like high-arcane futuristic, or historical, etc. Or do we want to keep the first one open to all ideas? I am leaning towards the latter myself, and possibly come up with themed competitions if this becomes popular and we continue it.

24 Hour RPG

Okay. I have decided to remove the 24 hour restriction. We now have one full week to work on and complete the game. This means some people's works will be more comprehensive than others, but at least everyone's should be complete. Plus this will allow everyone an opporotunity to participate, where someone might otherwise not have a solid 24 hour block to dedicate to this competition.

Thus has the name been changed to 168HourRPG.

I'm pretty happy with keeping it open to all settings/styles, but constraints always help creativity. D&D is a lot harder to play without the rulebooks (though my brother and I managed to play for 2 years without any idea of what the real rules were). I think the only people we have on board right now are you, my roommate, and me :-/. Who knew that OPnPWers were such slackers. :P I'll look into asking more of my RPing group and see if anyone else is interested and can squeeze it into their demanding schedule of WoW raids and getting food between WoW raids.

it's not a matter of slacking. i'd love to play a 24 hour game. I just don't really like the sounds of this one

Meeghal- Thats fine. I have been soliciting people I know to see if I could get anyone involved. But if its just three of us, then thats still three games being made and test played.

Arch- Why don't you like the sounds of this one? Its almost the same as the origional competition. What about this do you not like?
