Age of the Avatar [3.5E]
This is my intent to start a summer game on OPnP, one that is well planned/fleshed out (for about a month now with my roomie), serious and hopefully enjoyable for everyone.
=== BACKSTORY ===
Many moons have passed since this land has first seen peace. The old stories claim that the first rulers of this young continent negotiated with dragons. Nowadays, leadership means willingness to fight.
It began with the dwarves about 53 years ago, or the elves, depending on where your facts hail from. Tired of young elvish immigrants "stealing" their cities and their land, dwarven clansmen sought to drive them out with pickaxes and fire. In response, the elves cut ties and raided the bordering dwarven cities, openly looting and setting fire. For six years, this continued on.
Then, as the last act of diplomacy the continent would see, Ta'lor Zimmelip negotiated an alliance between the dwarves and halflings, as well as set in stone the neutrality of his people (gnomes) in all war. His diplomacy was so well recognized that many thought the alliance was to be named after him: The Ta'lor Confederation (The official name is lost to history).
Moreso in response rather than any other reason, the elves and humans responded with their own alliance, uniting under the Jinzari Alliance. The elves cite their land as the Realm of Jinza, a conflicting territorial claim.
The two alliances fought off and on for 29 years in what is referred to as the Bright Wars. The Jinzari claimed victory in the end, consolidating their population directly in the Realm of Jinza, the Ta'lor moving out into wilder lands.
Though the war ended, the two sides didn't stop fighting until the Coalition of Free Races revealed itself and openly attacked them both. The CFR is a new alliance founded by the northern part of the continent with one goal in mind, forced integration of all races.
Overtly, this is a pretty one-sided conflict in favor of the CFR. Underneath it, however, something sinister is happening. Rumors of rulers with erratic behavior, the loyalty of officials, and complex schemes fly across ears. Something just seems off with the conflict.
This is where you come in. Advertisements for work for adventurous people have sprung up in practically every city, town, village, and homestead. People interested in becoming operatives should seek out the dubious sources listed. Naturally, safety is not guaranteed. People interested in working as operatives/mercenaries, discovering the truth, adventure, or are just looking for coin should seek out an interview.
=== Character Creation Details ===
For your characters, the first thing you are going to want to choose is your starting allegiance (or choose no allegiance, if you don't feel like plot). Here's a short blurb of each:
Jinzari Alliance -- A more sorcerous society. Consisting primarily of more magically inclined peoples (e.g. humans, elves, planetouched, etc), the society is slightly xenophobic, but values knowledge. The vast majority of the population live together, forming a metropolis, leaving the bordering areas sparse and somewhat uncivilized. The Jinzari Alliance is home to many libraries and advanced educational institutions, as well as the most extensive and accurate historical records on the continent. It is also the only seafaring nation, although sea travel is not really practical yet.
Ta'lor Confederacy -- A more sturdy society. Consisting primarily of more survialist peoples (e.g. dwarves, halflings, orcs, etc), many whom share the experience of being outcast by the Jinzari. Far from their homelands, the Ta'lor people have spread out far, covering a large portion of the continent with their villages and towns. They have assimiliated and relied upon a fair bit of gnomish culture and technology, encouraging exploration and a wild flair, but valuing function at the same time. Given its size and openness, the Ta'lor are home to pretty much every guild and organization on the continent.
Coalition of Free Races -- A more fanatical society. Consisting of practically every civilized race imaginable (as well as some not so civilized). The loosely connected society is brought together to zealotry by the goal of unification of all races and equality. Its history is somewhat unknown, and its culture is constantly changing. Viewed by the elite as rebels, the CFR is open to anyone who shares its ideals. The CFR has openly declared war on both the Ta'lor Confederacy and the Jinzari Alliance, seeking to unite the continent.
Your allegiance choice will affect your starting knowledge, contacts, and to a limited degree the plot. After you have chosen your allegiance (or lack of one), character creation can continue.
Stats are 32-pt buy unless -everyone- would like to roll. (4d6 drop lowest)
PHB Races only. Don't bother asking for something with a LA or ECL.
Try to keep it PHB classes/skills/feats limited until around level 4-5. Exceptions allowed, just ask.
Please note that your chosen allegiance does not restrict you in any way in terms of racial/class choices.
There are no alignment restrictions other than ones imposed by your class. That said, think twice about an evil character and chaotic stupid characters are going to get wanged on the head.
Don't ask about psionics. I will hurt you, with psionics.
Maximum starting gold for your class. If you do not know what that is, lemee know and I'll look it up. There are no limits to buying things, just don't go into debt and don't make up items.
Please consider writing a paragraph or so of background for your character, though is not required.
Once I get receive your CS I will give some feedback and set up a one-on-one session for us to, more or less, settle your character in.

If you can commit the time, seriousness, and attention, and you're interested, post some interest. I'll fill this out with more details soon.
BTW, OPnPW exclusive.

Age of the Avatar [3.5E]
Shotgun first spot?
I can play darn near any week day starting around 5:00-5:30 pm CST, ending around 11:30 pm CST. Weekends are typically free during the day.
PS: If you hand me character generation guidelines, I'll hand you a character sheet today.
"You see now they're thinking about banning toy guns... And they're going to keep the fuckin' real ones!"

Age of the Avatar [3.5E]
It's been a long time since I played in an Acido game.
Same deal with Saber for the character. Schedule is completely open right now, that will probably change soon but it should be pretty normal (evenings/weekends open).
StrikerEternal (12:25:26 AM): i run a mean first session
Melubb [02:40]: strikers voice can crush planets
Age of the Avatar [3.5E]
I'd be willing to play, but my schedule fluctuates, so unless you're up for scheduling sessions on different days each week, I should probably sit out.
For the record, I'm consistently available about 10p EDT, except Fridays, when I play SR. Weekends would be a bit more promising, too.
"Zey goggles! Zey do nutzing!" - Saber, as Arnie
Age of the Avatar [3.5E]
Scheduling shouldn't be too much of an issue, just keep in mind that you need to be able to commit about 3-5 hours on a bi-weekly schedule at the very least. It's not fair to everyone else who wants to play if you never come to games >.> I do know some people who have their schedules so packed that bi-weekly is asking for too much, that's who the rule was originally written for.
If you know you will come to games when they're scheduled, then please join. If not, I seriously have respect for you for sitting out. It's unfortunately the only way, though.
I'll have char creation details tomorrow, background is up. If you really want to flap together a character as soon as possible, here's some fast details:
1st level, 32-pt buy probably (willing to do 4d6 if you guys want), standard races and classes for now
"Don't let history... happen to you."
Age of the Avatar [3.5E]
I'll likely wait for full character creation details, but I was wondering if the Scout class from Complete Adventurer might be considered? I was thinking an Elven Scout (Archer-like build; wields a longbow [if I can afford one] and a longsword), kind of a thrill-seeker who realizes his potential use in a group of these 'operatives'.
My skills would be focused around movement skills (Climb, Hide, Tumble, etc), with a secondary focus on Perception-based skills.
I'd probably pick Point-Blank Shot as my feat.
Would skill tricks (from the Complete Scoundrel) be considered? I couldn't take them until 3rd+ level anyways; just a thought.
Oh, and for the record, I'd prefer 32-pt buy. Stat dice hate me. Last character I rolled had worse than 'elite array' stats. :(

Age of the Avatar [3.5E]
Committing the time isn't a problem; it's that my schedule is so random. I work 4-5 days a week (not necessarily weekdays only) and when I do I typically work til 10 or 11 EDT, and I know some people won't be able to play that late on those nights. It really depends on how open everyone else's schedule is.
I'm all for it, but I'm a little skeptical.
"Zey goggles! Zey do nutzing!" - Saber, as Arnie
Age of the Avatar [3.5E]
Shifting my sleep schedule has made me lazy, I will try to keep updates as regular as possible. Information is coming in pieces because I am collaborating with my roommate (He plans on running the game too, I don't know when though)
One thing that has resulted from this is the campaign now has a wiki for collaboration. When it starts to swell with information, I'll share it, and we can hopefully make this easier to hand out information to people.
Arch, I have no problems with you trying if three people is all I can get. It's up to you past that, though.
Saber, my plan was keeping the game restricted until 4th-5th level, at which point you can start drawing in whatever you want, the transition will make sense hopefully around those levels.
EDIT: IIRC, the scout class would be fine to start out with. Skill tricks, or whatever for that matter, I'd like to hold off until level 4-5, but if they're simple enough you could take them earlier.
If anyone else has any questions or want to ask me if * is acceptable, post away or pm/email or whatever me.
"Don't let history... happen to you."
Age of the Avatar [3.5E]
Sounds good. I'll most likely generate my character Thursday.
"Zey goggles! Zey do nutzing!" - Saber, as Arnie
Age of the Avatar [3.5E]
Just want to make sure I read that correctly; that was a 'no' on the Scout until 4th-5th level?
What is everyone else gonna make? I ask so that we avoid making three of the 'same' characters. :P

Age of the Avatar [3.5E]
I edited my post Saber; the scout class will be fine to start out with.
Character Creation Details is up.
EDIT: Btw, email is acidtrees at gmail dot com
"Don't let history... happen to you."
Age of the Avatar [3.5E]
Mmmk, in the meantime, I've thought up a number of other character possibilities... So I'm undecided. The scout is certainly at the top of the list, though.
Someone beat up Morro and tell him to join if he can.

Repeating this will totally get you laid.
Age of the Avatar [3.5E]
All of the character creation details should be up. I will have a scheduling thread up soon.
If you've -just- found this thread and have interest but don't think you can get in on it, you are wrong. Game is still primed to go, there are still spots open, and scheduling still isn't an issue yet. Post some interest, send a character sheet, AIM me, whatever.
I'll be afk on the server during the day too.
"Don't let history... happen to you."
Age of the Avatar [3.5E]
I started my character on Friday, but didn't finish it. I'm hoping to do that tonight.
"Zey goggles! Zey do nutzing!" - Saber, as Arnie
Age of the Avatar [3.5E]
Aright, I decided on doing a Human Paladin (provided it's not restricted). Deities different for this world? Do I need to choose one, or could I be a 'champion of good and order'?
"You see now they're thinking about banning toy guns... And they're going to keep the fuckin' real ones!"
Repeating this will totally get you laid.
Age of the Avatar [3.5E]
I've got my character done, except for equipment.. namely because I can't find the starting gold in the SRD.
Someone wanna help a brutha out?
I'm a dwarven rogue - combat based.
"Zey goggles! Zey do nutzing!" - Saber, as Arnie
Age of the Avatar [3.5E]
Paladins are excellent. The standard pantheon is available to you all for choosing deities. If you want Saber, you can opt to just be a champion of good and order. The appropriate deities will still provide you with divine power, so don't anger them if you choose that path for your character.
Arch, I'll send you a PM of your starting gold.
If you haven't gotten close to finishing your character yet, I shall set up a time to be on OPnP to assist in character creation details. Best case scenario, everyone shows up and we have a couple of laughs. Post whenever would be a good time for you (I'm always AFK on it until either it stops letting me on or I turn off my computer, post a time in which I should -not- be AFK0.
"Don't let history... happen to you."
Age of the Avatar [3.5E]
Thanks Acid.
I can be on about 11pm EST tomorrow.
"Zey goggles! Zey do nutzing!" - Saber, as Arnie
Age of the Avatar [3.5E]
I'm in. I'll cover the arcane spot with what looks to be a Wizard, though depending on a few things I may switch to a Sorcerer. Expect a character sheet by friday. Also, you should hit me up on aim whenever you can for some other details I would like to get worked out. dcpassarelli is my screen name. See you guys later!
>Stick your finger through it, and scrape the shit out your ass with your finger
Age of the Avatar [3.5E]
Well my character sheet is done and submitted. Barbarian is ready to be set loose! You all need to finish asap.
Lord of Castle Black and host of the never-ending party. Collects Morganti weapons and illegal books. Likes Eastern brandy, his sword Blackwand, and going on killing sprees.
Age of the Avatar [3.5E]
Since we actually have more players, I'm going to scrap my combat rogue.
Acid, would you allow a duskblade [PHB 2]?
"Zey goggles! Zey do nutzing!" - Saber, as Arnie
Age of the Avatar [3.5E]
I'm done with everything except background for my cleric.
edit: CS sent
StrikerEternal (12:25:26 AM): i run a mean first session
Melubb [02:40]: strikers voice can crush planets
Age of the Avatar [3.5E]
I would love to play! I'm pretty flexible with my schedule, but there will be a few days a week i need to reserve for other stuff.
Not sure what I want to play, possible something sneaky and/or party support role like bard or rogue. I'm thinking Dwarven Rogue, but Arch said he might do that. Wanna be related? Ha! Anyway, count me in for now (if you have room). Thanks!
I am the mighty Pieh @ www.Strolen.com
Check if out for a GREAT ROLEPLAYING RESOURCE! Read. Post. Play.
Age of the Avatar [3.5E]
Hey I am interested in joining your game but I need to know the times and date and the other info to make sure I can make it.
Age of the Avatar [3.5E]
Arch, originally I was leaning toward no, but I looked up a few things, talked with my roommmate, read some of our past notes, and I think duskblades would be acceptable. Let me just point out that we already have two/three melee/caster hybrids. If you want to though, go ahead.
I've received 4 character sheets so far, I shall post a scheduling thread shortly.
Cloudncali, the times and date aren't set in stone yet.
If enough of you guys generate interest, I do not mind splitting into two groups (This campaign is designed with that in mind).
Also, I will be posting some possible and definite house rules and clarifications. Stay tuned..
"Don't let history... happen to you."
Age of the Avatar [3.5E]
I have two character sheets almost complete - just have to decide which one I want to play.. and now think about whether or not a duskblade is the way to go.
Right now I'm leaning more towards to the scout (with much urging from Saber)
"Zey goggles! Zey do nutzing!" - Saber, as Arnie
Age of the Avatar [3.5E]
I wouldn't call it 'urging'. Mere suggestion, is all. Scout is a pretty sweet class (enjoyable to play, too), and the party as is could use a little less brute force and a little more stealth.
"You see now they're thinking about banning toy guns... And they're going to keep the fuckin' real ones!"
Repeating this will totally get you laid.
Age of the Avatar [3.5E]
Basically just waiting on Arch's character sheet now. I've looked at all but one of you's guys's character sheets. We look pretty much ready to start one group.
If you guys haven't yet, post your availabilities and lets get this game started.
"Don't let history... happen to you."
Age of the Avatar [3.5E]
Still available at pretty much any time.

Sorry guys.

Age of the Avatar [3.5E]
That's fine Arch, my computer has been kaput for about a week now, it should be in today. I'll hold off until Monday before starting.

Age of the Avatar [3.5E]
How would you like me to get my charsheet to you?
I finally got my ISP to actually come to my house and fix shit.. the fucking line was cut.. I told them it was something like that.. no, it took 10 days to get them to do that
