Previous Sessions:
AotA 1 - Recap coming soon

Notes: I'm gonna put the XP rules here just in case:
Progress/Plot XP: This is base XP, awarded based on plot advancement. It's awarded to everyone as long as you show up.
Roleplaying/Participation XP: This is bonus XP, awarded based on how much you contributed to the game. Everyone is awarded a private amount based on a percentage of progress XP. The amount awarded is not competitive, and it will probably not let you level faster than everyone else. It's XP you can spend freely.
Achievement XP: This is where XP from stuff not covered under progress XP goes. Do something amazing and unexpected. (note, it's really easy to plan for stupidity, I wouldn't try that avenue)
Bonus XP: I can still give out XP for any reason I want to keep the game fun.

Also, I will be experimenting with using maps for combat and to illustrate. We may switch over to maptool for combats depending on how effective and not-distracting such a switch would be. Next game, be prepared. (If maptool proves too distracting, I'll try using webspace to do it instead.)

[3.5E] Age of the Avatar Scheduling and Notes

Friday's and Saturday's work best for me, well maybe other days but I have a more limited timeframe for those. What times were you thnking of playing?

Lord of Castle Black and host of the never-ending party. Collects Morganti weapons and illegal books. Likes Eastern brandy, his sword Blackwand, and going on killing sprees.

[3.5E] Age of the Avatar Scheduling and Notes

I would prefer either thursday or the weekend, but I am fine with whenever at the moment.

"Don't let history... happen to you."

[3.5E] Age of the Avatar Scheduling and Notes

Mon-Fri = Any time after 6pm until about 10:30pm CST (later if need be on Fridays)
Saturday = Any time until about 5pm (most weeks, some weeks I'm available all day)
Sunday = All day

I will often have things going on during the weekend (something has come up), but with adequate prior notice, I'll be able to make practically any game time you set up on those days.

"You see now they're thinking about banning toy guns... And they're going to keep the fuckin' real ones!"

[3.5E] Age of the Avatar Scheduling and Notes

Anytime after 6 pm sunday-thursday. Friday and saturday I don't get off work till 8, so after 9 would work. As long as I know at least 3 days in advance, I should always be able to make it (as long as we don't play more then twice a week).

>Stick your finger through it, and scrape the shit out your ass with your finger

[3.5E] Age of the Avatar Scheduling and Notes

Ah man, I'm not even in the group. Fucking ISP.

Ftr, I'm posting from work.

"Zey goggles! Zey do nutzing!" - Saber, as Arnie

[3.5E] Age of the Avatar Scheduling and Notes

Okay, if I'm not mistaken, these times are irreconcilable. The only hope is some sort of time zone tomfoolery.

---

On mon-thurs, Saber and Mel can't start until 6 pm, and Morro can't start after 6 pm.

On sunday, Morro can't play after 6 pm, and Mel can't play before 6 pm

On friday, there's only an hour difference between Mel's come-in time and Saber's logoff time.

On saturday, Mel can't start until 9 pm, Saber can't play after 5 pm.

---

(Assuming Mel posted times in CST) Our options:

a two hour game on mon-thurs (probably having two games a week or something)

a one hour game on friday

someone's schedule opens up or they clarify how I misread their schedule

we split you guys into two groups. (they would be two groups of 3 players I hope)

"Don't let history... happen to you."

[3.5E] Age of the Avatar Scheduling and Notes

EST.

EDIT: you also read my schedule wrong. I am free after 6 pm sunday.

>Stick your finger through it, and scrape the shit out your ass with your finger

[3.5E] Age of the Avatar Scheduling and Notes

Fixed, I'll throw around some possibilities in a minute.

That opens up the possibility of sunday at 5-8 PM.

"Don't let history... happen to you."

[3.5E] Age of the Avatar Scheduling and Notes

Friday night looks the best option to me, since Saber said he can play later if necessary, so with Mel being available after 8 PM CST we could have a few hours of gaming there.

StrikerEternal (12:25:26 AM): i run a mean first session
Melubb [02:40]: strikers voice can crush planets

[3.5E] Age of the Avatar Scheduling and Notes

I missed that part in Saber's schedule. Friday at 8 pm would be my preferred time, as it doesn't put anyone against a hard scheduling issue if we start a end a little late.

"Don't let history... happen to you."

[3.5E] Age of the Avatar Scheduling and Notes

Yeah, Fridays are cool. I work about once every 6 weeks or so on Saturday for a few hours, which will limit how late I can be online, but I'll know about that at least a month+ in advance.

I'm free all Fridays out to the foreseeable future, with a day or two's prior notice.

"You see now they're thinking about banning toy guns... And they're going to keep the fuckin' real ones!"

Repeating this will totally get you laid.

[3.5E] Age of the Avatar Scheduling and Notes

We have enough consensus to put up a meeting time. Now then, the question is will people be able to show up if we have a game this Friday? I'm willing to start this Friday if enough people can confirm, otherwise we will start next week.

"Don't let history... happen to you."

[3.5E] Age of the Avatar Scheduling and Notes

I can make it.

[3.5E] Age of the Avatar Scheduling and Notes

I know you don't have my charsheet yet (I forgot to buy equipment - I'll do that tonight) but I can make next friday. Not sure about the 20th yet (might be going away), but I can make the 27th, too.

[3.5E] Age of the Avatar Scheduling and Notes

I'm good for this Friday.

StrikerEternal (12:25:26 AM): i run a mean first session
Melubb [02:40]: strikers voice can crush planets

[3.5E] Age of the Avatar Scheduling and Notes

Uuurgh... I was reminded that I agreed to meet up at a restaurant after work on Friday. We'll be sitting down at about 5pm CST, which leaves me an hour to eat and get home. I'll do my best to bet back by my previously committed to time of 6pm CST, but something tells me I'll be a little late (up to a max of 30 mins late).

I really apologize; I totally forgot about this prior arrangement. Hopefully a half hour isn't too bad.

:(

[3.5E] Age of the Avatar Scheduling and Notes

Allrighty. The game was normally planned for 8 PM CST.

However, unless Mel posts an interest in coming tomorrow, I'll be available at 6 pm, and once everyone else is available, I don't see a reason to wait.

We got 4 people, this game is go.

"Don't let history... happen to you."

[3.5E] Age of the Avatar Scheduling and Notes

Allright, recap is coming soon. Next game I think we should limit our game to midnight CST. If anyone does -not- agree with this or has a question, please post. Otherwise, I'll assume a 4-hour game is fine with everyone.

I posted the XP rules under notes. I'd also like to list out a few house rules for the game (late, I know). Lemee know if you have any questions or comments:

-) Successfully grappling a flat-footed character results in an automatic pin. Grabbing someone who does not resist also results in a pin. Do keep in mind that grappling with someone wearing armor spikes is a very bad idea. (EDIT: Forgot to mention, this doesn't apply to people that can't be flanked)

-) Characters can survive for 1 round at -10 HP or lower. If you aren't healed above -10 in one round, you will die. This rule does not apply to save vs. death effects. If you are brought back from -10 HP, you will be unconscious for 8 hours, regardless of HP. (The point of this rule is to not equal an automatic reroll if the dice go ridiculously unlucky and someone gets critted for 30 damage, it's not to encourage stupidity)

-) Knockouts and critical hits are silent takedowns. Slicing up someone will result in screaming. This runs both ways, keep that in mind if you "go around a corner" while everyone else waits.

-) Custom XP rules. (Posted above)

-) For HP per level, I stick to rolling, but to help out if your rolls are terrible, you many decide to -once- change a roll to the maximum. If you feel paranoid, you also have the option of not rolling and taking half the maximum like monsters do.

"Don't let history... happen to you."

[3.5E] Age of the Avatar Scheduling and Notes

Meh I'm going to be gone home up through Monday, leaving tomorrow. I don't know what you want to do about Typhany, someone can play her I guess :(

[3.5E] Age of the Avatar Scheduling and Notes

I know this is kinda last-second, but.. Friday is my 21st Birthday, and as you can imagine: I plan on making it memorable (at least for those around me). So... I don't know if I will be around for the game, if I will remember the game, or how well I will be able to focus on the game. Do with Hagger as you please, just don't kill him. And make sure to inform me of what I did, as my friends will IRL. Sorry I didn't mention sooner, it only dawned on my recently. Thank you, and sorry.

[3.5E] Age of the Avatar Scheduling and Notes

Eek! I didn't realize a time was posted for this game (silly RSS and not letting me know posts are edited...).

If I'm able to make this Friday at all, I will be late. Earliest would be 10pm EST.

As far as I'm aware, this is the last of my 'prior arrangements'. People keep reminding me of this shit only a day or two prior to the 'event'...

"You see now they're thinking about banning toy guns... And they're going to keep the fuckin' real ones!"

Repeating this will totally get you laid.

[3.5E] Age of the Avatar Scheduling and Notes

I must admit I'm a little bit disappointed. I contacted my friend (the other DM) to play one of the PCs so we can start on time, but he has also pulled a disappearing act until Saturday.

We can't start until we have 4. As far as I can reliably tell, that's when Saber gets back, so I will be starting the game an hour later. I won't try to be available until about 10 minutes before then.

BTW, DevilLogic, happy birthday dude

"Don't let history... happen to you."

[3.5E] Age of the Avatar Scheduling and Notes

When I say earliest would be 10EST... I meant, 'best' possible scenario. I kinda doubt I'll be back before midnight EST. Going to a concert with the work buddies (today is one of my coworkers last day, and we're giving her one last hurrah).

"You see now they're thinking about banning toy guns... And they're going to keep the fuckin' real ones!"

[3.5E] Age of the Avatar Scheduling and Notes

Strange. We have 7 PCs, and can't even get 4 together.

Assuming we're actually playing, can I trust Saber will text me when we start?

"Zey goggles! Zey do nutzing!" - Saber, as Arnie

[3.5E] Age of the Avatar Scheduling and Notes

Dang, allright. Well, fortunately my roommate contacted me last night at 4:00 am and told me he can potentially come. I'm gonna give him a call and see whats up.

Nix the 9:00 PM thing, I'll be on at the time posted in the first post. If we don't have a game then, then the game will be cancelled for this week. Otherwise, we roll.

"Don't let history... happen to you."

[3.5E] Age of the Avatar Scheduling and Notes

I'll be on about 9pm EST, then.

"Zey goggles! Zey do nutzing!" - Saber, as Arnie

[3.5E] Age of the Avatar Scheduling and Notes

Game didn't happen this week. If you are going to be able to make it next week (at the same time), please post your availability.

Also, if you are not familiar with MapTool yet, please do so, as it is likely that we will be running with it next time.

"Don't let history... happen to you."

[3.5E] Age of the Avatar Scheduling and Notes

I can make it.

StrikerEternal (12:25:26 AM): i run a mean first session

[3.5E] Age of the Avatar Scheduling and Notes

I can be there for that, too

[3.5E] Age of the Avatar Scheduling and Notes

I should be able to make that, I will let you know as soon as possible if I cant. I will also check out this MapTool you speak of...

This Friday is clean for me. I'll be there.

Just a forewarning, in case it isn't obvious... I won't be making it next week Friday. I can't imagine why.

Could someone link me to a good place to download MapTool from? I found it with a google search but it was a wierd file type that I couldn't open. Any help would be appreciated, and beneficial to the game. Thanks.

If that's the weird file type you're talking about and you couldn't open it, you must not have Java:

We're all currently using developmental version 1.3.b31... Think we should just all switch down to the release version? It'll be easier to make sure everyone has the same version, due to the crappy way they do their developmental version downloads (ie, only the latest is avail, no way to DL the earlier developmentals).

EDIT: Well, there is... But it's kind of a pain.

[3.5E] Age of the Avatar Scheduling and Notes

Why are we using an earlier version, anyway?

"Zey goggles! Zey do nutzing!" - Saber, as Arnie

[3.5E] Age of the Avatar Scheduling and Notes

We're 'not'. We're using the most up to date version that was available when the [my] campaign started, which just happened to be one 'in development'. How was I to know they handled their updates on their development version so poorly?
I got Java now, but when I try to download MapTool it keeps "stalling" on me. More help, please.
Where/when does it stall? You click on the link I gave, open the file, and then it stalls? Does it not give you a download screen at all, or does it complete some of the download and then stall? How many times have you tried it? (could have been a temporary problem with the server on their end)

You can use this link to test your java installation:

http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml

If that works and you still can't download, then I don't know what the problem is (because it sounds like it has to do with the java web start). You could try posting on the MapTool forum.

Yes, for now, we will switch to the release version. At some point though in the future when we're all comfortable with maptools, I would like to switch to the newest version at some point though.

Devil, which version/exe of Java did you get?

"Don't let history... happen to you."

[3.5E] Age of the Avatar Scheduling and Notes

So which version should we all be getting?

"Zey goggles! Zey do nutzing!" - Saber, as Arnie

[3.5E] Age of the Avatar Scheduling and Notes

The release version. (1.2.b32 I believe)

EDIT: Mel told me last week that he can come. Morro is the only one who hasn't posted yet. Needless to say, Friday is happening.

[3.5E] Age of the Avatar Scheduling and Notes

Guys, I don't think I'm going to be able to use MapTools.. and I have the latest Java according to that test link.

The problem, as diagnosed by a friend of mine, is that my connection is too slow and is just saying "fuck it" to getting MapTools from their server. I am on one of the cheapest, piece of crap, Dial-Up Connections around and can hardly do anything with the internet. For a few reasons I am stuck with this. However, we can continue with just OPnPW or you can cut me out of the game and play with MapTools. Maybe a vote is in order? I'm fine with either outcome, and I'm starting to get really frustrated with lots of things about my new computer (and I'm not sure it's just the dial-up).

So... Thats where I am, I'll be on OPnPW at the scheduled time. You can let me know then if you want to continue without me, which is fine since I don't want to inconvenience anyone else.

Wtf is MapTools anyway?

I am the mighty Pieh @ www.Strolen.com
Check if out for a GREAT ROLEPLAYING RESOURCE! Read. Post. Play.

[3.5E] Age of the Avatar Scheduling and Notes

That is a very valid point, as MapTools is ridiculously bandwidth intensive relative to a 56k modem. It should not be the cause of your inability to run the program though, because I am able to load it up while offline. -Make sure you download the program before running it, do not open it up from the website-. Nevertheless, I don't think MapTools will be effective if everyone doesn't have bandwidth to spare, so don't worry about it, MapTools wont be happening if that's the case. I'm fine with a vote though.

It's a very well-designed, rich program which lets one person share maps with other people, as well as organize the map in real-time so that PCs can position themselves on the map at any time, and as they move their tokens, the map updates based on their new location.

Not running with MapTools is fine, as it won't really impact the flow of the game. Note though that it would be run alongside OPnPW, not as a replacement, so even if we do end up running with it, it doesn't discount you from the game.

So my Dad is coming to town tomorrow (rather unexpectedly). He's passing through on his way back from a trip. I'm not sure what time he'll be there and as such, I'm not sure if I'll be later, or even on at all.

[3.5E] Age of the Avatar Scheduling and Notes

I rather enjoyed playing alongside Hagger, so I would not like to see you leave. You're a good player, and it'd be a shame to lose you. Whatever it takes to keep you in the game gets my vote.

This week Thursday and Friday, I cannot make it (and, by extension, I doubt Arch can either). Saturday/Sunday 'might' be open; I need to consult with the canuck about that. If one of them is open, feel free to schedule your game into that slot (cuz, remember, when I started my game, I said we'd give your game priority over mine).

If both are open, maybe we can work something out to run both this upcoming weekend.
