State of Affairs

I've pretty much departed from the online scene (as has I believe Striker). I'm heading to basic training down in San Antonio, TX for the Air Force come February '09, and I've been spending all of my free time (which is sadly very little) trying to get in shape before they kick my ass down there. As such, I've been unable to devote any time to online gaming. Whatever you decide to do Brad, I will most certainly understand and respect your decision.
 
I absolutely love this community, as it's been a wonderful source of friendship and entertainment over the past who knows how many years. Definitely makes me a little sad to see it fading away, but it really has been a great run, and I hope to keep in touch with you all. I think we all owe our Brad here a huge thanks for what he's done for us all; he's not only given us a fantastic program to play our favorite PnP games on, but also a community, and I know that I, personally, have made a number of good friends here... All of whom I will certainly miss gaming with.

I am inclined to agree with Saber.  Some of the best times were running or playing in games here, and I know I've met my fair share of folks that have made an impression on me or that I can call 'friend'.  I'm doing the law studying thing, and I imagine everyone elses schedule is what prevents us all from gaming together again

I usually check these forums a few times a week, hoping for some news of a game going on. But there has been none. It is sad to see OPNPW so inactive. I'm always seeing new users in the "Who's New" sidebar... But they don't seem to be doing much. I've met a few really cool people through this program and still talk to them. I don't know what to say other than: It was a good run and we had fun. Thanks, Brad.
Oh and I may have been that "Acid's friend" that e-mailed you. I know I e-mailed you and mentioned I was in Acid's game... not sure if you mean me, though.

I know how you feel Brad, and I remember trying to convince you things would pick up again, even though I had the same doubts.  It's understandable really, we are all moving on and doing our own things and don't have time for gaming, and with our community being so small and the members so close in age it seems like we're all entering this phase of our lives at the same time.
I posted about my own situation already, but yeah, I'm finding myself with little free time these days.  Saber's post sums it up for me Brad, you should do what you feel is best.  Don't feel an obligation to put time into the program when it doesn't look like it will be used.  It's always been yours, and we'll be behind whatever you want to do with it.  As for me, I can run the server as long as it's necessary.

Do you know yet if you'll have any time off for Canucktrip '09? :P 
 

I actually think he's talking about Acid's roommate (he used the screen name rm_you on the program), I remember that guy talking about wanting to see the source code.

I too, would be sorry to lose this program, but I certainly understand. Once again, it seems Saber has eloquently summed up the community as a whole. Obviously he has some kind of mind read capabilties he's not telling us about (but the government knows about.. Basic Training in San Antonio, pfft).

You know what would be cool?  If instead of trying to get games together that we can never find the time for, we just joined the server on Wednesday nights or something like that.  Just to chat about nothing like we used to.  Maybe it won't work... but I'll be on tomorrow night anyway.

Hooray, you survived!  Welcome back, Kaku.

OPnPW will be up for awhile longer, at least another 6 months because I can't think of a new domain for myself. Anyway not the point.
I know alot of people have used opnpw, and I've enjoyed the time with it. I'e sunk thousands of hours into the code, the site, the games, etc and don't regret anything. I was always uncomfortable taking money, but I could use some help in another way right now.
I'm having a bit of difficulty with the job market currently, it's tightening up and I need to push my resume, so I'm going to add OPnPW to my resume (the aspects of it, not as a line item of course) but I can't rightly do that with some of the pages unfinished. Anyone able to help edit the pages you're directly help build a stronger case on my resume. I haven't looked into which ones yet, but I just know I only fleshed out the site, not everything.

Wrote it on my to-do list Brad.  I'll try to work on some of the pages later this week if I have a chance.

Also anyone that runs a game it'd be good if you could snap some screenshots of the program running with 3-4+ people in it and a game in progress. I understand it may be annoying because it'd of course show the game's text in progress, but if there is a good moment I'd appreciate it.

I don't think we have any active games, but if a few people are down maybe we can organize a one-shot and get some screenshots from it.  (Plus we could chat, and hang out and stuff.  It would be good times.)

I'm up for a one-shot and some chat. I'm free most nights, not Sunday or Monday 'tll late though. Post up some times, the system, and who is running what. Let's do this!

As said before, even with my hectic schedual, running a one shot game would be the least we could do. Lastly two cents, even when opnpw shuts down this place has just been a vernible pot of good memories. Even without it being here i'll still remember my time with the community. My only regret is when it does shut down, it can't go out with bang. But thats not to say clay is out there somewhere waiting to blow up somehting in opnpw's honor anyway :X

I don't think it'll actually hit me until the website goes down....
but I will be a very, VERY sad panda.

I might have time to plan and run a one-shot during winter break (maybe sometime in the last week of December or the first week of January).  Maybe more of you guys will be free then? DevilLogic's the only one who gave me an affirmative and I'd like to have more than just one player.
 
Also, I never got around to working on those pages (sorry Brad ) and I have finals next week, but I'll have time over the break.  I'm going to be spending quite a few days sitting around in my mom's house hundreds of miles away from my friends with nothing to do.

I do, and I should be okay for playing starting mid-January; I'll have quit my job, so I can focus on getting in shape during the day (and finishing up compy work projects that pay WAY more than order entry), leaving nights free.
 
I also hope to run a VERY short (2-3 sessions?) test game of FFRPS 2.0... If I can find the interest.

 
I'd be down for some FFRPS.  I've never been that enthusiastic about the system, but any game you run is going to be good.
 
How's the getting in shape going? You running and working out and stuff? I started lifting weights a few weeks ago, shit is addictive.

What I really mean is, I love ya'll like people I'll never meet.  I've had a lot of great fun with you ladies and gents.  I have DnDO to thank for introducing me to PnP roleplaying, and OPnPW to thank for my first real game! (And subsequent addiction)  Speaking of which, Brad, you owe me $641.96 in Role Players Anonymous fees :D  I guess we can call it even, though, considering the insane amount of work that you've done - for which I am very grateful.

Saber, let me know when you are running FFRPS and I will definitly make it.  Also, I would be up for a one shot or a short campaign (or a longer one).

Brad, dude, I don't even know exactly how to say everything I want to say, so forgive me for rambling (I've started writing this post over 12 times and totally erased it each time, so I have made a promise to myself that absolutely NOTHING will be deleted from here on.
Opnpw has been such a cornerstone in my life fduring so many different phases, that I cannot honestly say I'm okay with it being closed off, but there are other opinions in my mind as well, like the fact that I KNOW that I haven't been around for the last year or two nearly as much as I should have been. Another thought floating around in my tiny little brain is the fact that I absolutely could not lose all of you, my friends. I've got so many memories of you all that the thought of not seeing any of you again is amazingly horrifying, heartrending, soulwrenching, and depressing.
I remember games with tux, striker, shanakol, karlth, solace, mikkl, saber, melubb, multirp, muddy, and so many others that I will probably NEVER speak (or type) to again, and the thought of all those left to me falling into that category is very rough.
I will start another topic, Titled "I Remember!" containing my memories, and hopefully the memories of others who feel it useful, to retain this thread's on topicness.
My opinion on the issue of closing or not closing Opnpw. Is this. Brad, you are my friend, and there were several points in my life where i considered you my very best and closest friend, and in fact I still do consider you one of my best and closest friends, despite our lack of communication in recent years. I feel the same about many others in our community, but you my friend are the paramount example. So, with that having been said, if you feel that opnpw.com should be closed, it's your baby my friend. Myself, Striker, and many many others have always had an interest in the program, but you are truly the heart and soul of the program, and a very large chunk of the community as well. I will email you seperately as well.
 
In closing, I love you guys, and yes it has been a hella DAMN good run.
